With my D4 I often stand two road bikes up in the back in a V shape with the wheels supporting each other. Works perfectly, not sure it will on the D5. I also lament the move to a 2/3, 1/3 middle seat as it gives me fewer options for carrying long loads.
Like has been said elsewhere, I want to like it and will try really hard, however, my car is only on 30k miles so I am in no rush. I will wait for the six cylinder Ingenium engines as I refuse to pay over £50k for a four pot and the latter shows how underdeveloped the departing V6 engines are.
PS Great to see petrol back on the UK price list as that may indeed be my direction of travel.2014MY Discovery

No hybrid powertrain? Seems like a wasted opportunity but I could live with that. As the keeper of three teenagers, however, I can't put up with such a pathetic excuse for a centre seat in the middle row - to build something this big and not make it a true 5-seater?
Looks like D3/D4 for us until the sprogs fly the nest.

Couldn't live with an Outlander - I do too much of my driving during daylight hours, and there are too many buildings with big reflective windows at street level.

I think the 5 is a good looking car in the right trim. The tech is cool for the most part and I would find most of it useful. I make a point of trying to use everything in the way of tech as it generally makes it easier than doing it "the old fashioned way". I know I can fold the seats myself but now I can do it remotely. Just like telly really, I could get up and swap channels but choose to use the remote. I don't worry that the shape has changed from the box it was to the wind tunnel created box it now is. So what. Cars haven't been particularly pretty since wind tunnel testing began. Look at some of the 50's cars and then look at what's available now. From a comparison point of view the new car does just about everything the old one did and a bit more. It still tows 3500kg with loads of tech help into the bargain. Light testing and electrically deployable tow bar would be very useful to me and save me getting down and dirty fitting the removeable one. I don't know about the steering with the TR wheel whilst reversing the van but willing to give it a go. Still seats 7 despite everyone saying the middle seat in the centre row is too small they seem to get the yacht team in ok. It looks like a quality car so limo mode continues as before. There is 2408 ltrs of space so good enough for most people. Off road ability has been improved so no complaints there.
So to sum up.
Tow car - check.
Limo - check
People carrier - check
Van - check
Off roader - check
All of my boxes are checked so nothing to complain about at all from me. I never really used the tailgate to sit on so no real problem for me although LR must have listened to the worries vocalised and stuck one inside for the needy. I can't wait to go and see it and find out who I have to sleep with to get one.

You might be able to fit three people in the middle row, but that doesn't alter the fact that the one perched on the glorified armrest in the middle is getting second-class treatment.

Can anyone clarify -is the TDV6 engine basically the same as that found in the D4, or is that the new Ingenium range?, and is the 8-speed gearbox also the same D4 unit?

I'm pretty sure the V6 is the existing lump in single turbo form and the 8 spd box is exactly the same.
They will improve the choice later to inject some desirability when the initial sales impetus slows down. Just like they did with the 3 and 4.FFRR 2017 4.4SDV8 Autobiography. Cost so much I must be mad!

D5 remote heating
My D4 had an "optional" FBH and remote heating when I bought it. LR wanted about £1k to have it factory fitted. I wonder if it could be configured after - that's what I did with Wiggs' help with a remote for about £300 I seem to recall
