DEEP Water

Take a look at the AndrewS vidio link Exclamation
How well does this D3 handle water ? I assume the snorkle is proply sealed,if a LR snorkle. I could not see a tarp over the front to create a bow wave, in this case was the fan belt loosened off to protect the fan blades and how can this be done as it looks like it has a spring tensioner with a sensor to set off all sorts of bing bongs and probibly put vechle into linp mode ? What about the rest of the electrics ?
Eneyway an impsessive vidio , I dont think I would do that to my D3 but am interested to know how to prepair for reasonably deep water in a D3. The usual mods for 4wds dont seem to be all achevable on D3.
What do you guys think Question

I'm sure Andrew will confirm ..but ISTR that its just a standard RAI with no other protective measures..vehicle was fine after Thumbs Up

And the raised air intake is not sealed - just a foam pad between it and the wing.

A trap draped over the grill would stop mud getting in but is not required otherwise.

And yes, AndrewS used a 'standard' D3 with winch, A bar and RAI. Nothing else but balls and bravado drove him into that Strat Florida river.

My understanding is that LR raised intake is that - it is NOT a sealed snorkel... whereas the Safari Snorkel is exactly that - sealed all the way through - only way in is through inlet at top of snorkel...

Any ideas - why did LR make their one the way they did?

cheers,

Simon

The LR RAI was not designed in Ireland - we outsourced it to Asia.

Yes they did not want the cars going in that much water for more then a splash Whistle
and as for the RAI not been sealed its only the pipe between the car body and the air filter that has vents in it so all you need to do is change the pipe to a sealed pipe and there you go LR say the vents in the pipe are there to stop the air whistling when your driving Rolling Eyes
IMHO the RIL looks better then the Safari Snorkel Smile
Safari Snorkel give you a pipe but you got to cut out bodywork to fit it not the best if your c Censored p at DIY like me Big Cry
