This was discussed many times on here when the D3 first came out, despite some members worst fears just because you can see a what appears to be an exposed electrical connector it's not automatically a weak spot. There probably has been a few issues as the result of poor connections but they aren't common
As Si says... what are the 'soft spots' that are eluded too ?
As far as I can remember I know of no one over here in the UK (and it was wet here this 'summer' believe me) that has complained of water ingress causing an issue.

It apppears my deal knows of a problem:
'Spoke to the dealer about this. They said the rear diff module is part of the transmission module. It is located behind the battery, the black box with a couple of rubber conduits entering the top.
They said that it is not waterproof and have had to replace some after a jet wash of the engine bay.
It would appear this is the one that gave the trouble when the 4x4 mag had the failure.
It is not watertight but is fairly out of the way. If I have another failure I will look at waterproofing the box it is in, but when warranty runs out.....they cost $400'

Neo, I would suggest its a faulty connector then and not a 'soft spot'.
If its on the chassis rail (below the top of the tyre) and its not able to cope with being submerged, then I would say the D3 has big problems.
I've sat a good few times in water that is above the chassis (as have people in front and behind me) with no ill effects.

fair enough.
Just seen many D3's wading above the chassis to make me feel this is not an issue with most vehicles.

Indeed, I think that as long as the water is moving past, and not really getting chance to 'get into' anything it is not so bad.
I had a good look when I was jet washing my car teh other day, and I notice that the LRE boys aren't shy of power washing that area either.
But it can be a potential trouble spot, and I am sure something can be done to cater for serious water situations....
It is really my good friends at LR looking out for me, so that I don't trash my lovely D3, and fair play to them for that.  The M-Power Express
