It’s only an Autocar created image, but I’m looking forward to seeing the real one in due course. I must remember to buy the magazine.

Assume it will also come with a 100k price tag Big Cry

As a side note see this FFRR comes with 2 x golf clubs for a cool 370k

Shocked Looks bloody awful!

LR need to keep it simple and just look at what made the D3/4 a success. If Mercedes can do it with the G-Wagon then LR can do it with the Discovery. The fact that the D5 was a disappointment should give them a clue about what to do.

I would anticipate prices starting around the £60k mark, but who knows.

The D2,D3 and D4 fitted in nicely between the then “Classic Defender” and the FFRR. Since the arrival of the “New Defender” the Discovery has rather lost its way. I see very few new ones on the road now, but I haven’t seen recent sales figures.

Indeed, but alas they will still ruin it

Would be brilliant if they done another similar shaped D3/4 , plus I wonder what the price tag will be ??

Yep. I briefly debated swapping my Defender for a D5 but the deal was shocking and my family were REALLY against it!

Also read that there’s problems with the 2.0 petrol ingenium engine in the D5 that puts people off , along with of course the 3.0 SDV6

Assume the petrol 3.0 Ingenium is a lot better or is that known as the 3.0-litre Si6 petrol plse

Must confess really like the new defender over a D5

Chap I know has a couple of 130, a.k.a. the long-arsed 110. Enough room in the rear row of seats for my 6'1" frame although I wouldn't want to go a long way as the lack of under leg support is chronic. But then it is a fold-away 3rd row rather proper seats. The rest of it is the same as the 110 but at least there is a little bit of space behind the 3rd row when they're up. When folded, the load bay is big.

I'd certainly pick the new Defender over the D5 any day of the week.

Whichever way you cut it, the Defender isn't a Discovery replacement.

The only reasons to buy a D5, that I can see, would be that you prefer the styling, don’t want to spend as much as a FFRR costs or want a split tailgate. The latter being perhaps the most relevant. The boot size and rear door being my main bugbear with the ‘new’ Defender.

The current FFRR can be had with 7 seats, but on a similar spec. basis is a sizeable chunk more money than a comparable Defender or D5.

There’s just so much crossover with spec., seating capacity and pricing with the current Defender and Discovery, that other than the tailgate, it’s hard to see the reasons for continuing to produce a Discovery.

It will be interesting to see how LR will differentiate the D6 from the Defender.

From a buyers perspective yes, but LR need to financially justify a new model.

Whilst I’ve not checked the sales figures, I’d guess that the Defender outsells the D5 by a considerable margin.

According to this site: https://www.best-selling-cars.com/brands/2...-by-model/ the Defender sold over 6.5 times as many as the D5 in 2023 worldwide. The DS sells twice as many as the D5. The D5 is, by far, LR's worst seller. The Velar doesn't do brilliantly either, being another one of those "what's it for?" models.

What's amazing is how many FFRR they sold. I guess it shows that there are a lot of rich people around the world.

When I think about what I see driving around, I see a lot more New Defenders than I do D5. And that's in an area centred around Oxford that spans from Cirencester to Milton Keynes, Newbury to Banbury. The sort of rural/semi-rural environment to which you'd think the D5 would be ideally suited.
