Great photographs, Iain, and a neat job as usual. It's a pity that the track details don't show on the screen.

Thanks for the pics Iain, and especially the scans of the instructions. Now have a good idea of what's required. I think I'll put my cradle where the instructions say, so will take a few pics should nobody else do it before me. Looks like it'll be Tuesday before mine is here though.
dazadd, if the base head unit has the same 2 wiring looms plugged into it, then I would be pretty confident in saying yes. It appears as if the device goes inline with the Aux input for the radio and taps off the steering wheel controls going into the headunit. You would need to fit the steering controls for the radio to get full functuality (described elsewhere here) though.IE - 05 D3 TDV6 HSE - Zambezi Silver

Dr Lex, it's a Brodit mount from www.dashmount.co.uk - as used / recommended by D3Matt installation is dead easy, took about an hour plus tea breaks, the hardest bit was finding the spring clips for the upper cubby box there's four of 'em, one in each outer corner other than that, just make sure you disconnect the fibre from the IHU first and push the extended cables up behind the nav. screen. i tried the 'standard' cradle position first, with blu-tack and it's a bit too close to the wiper control stalk if you have the steering column fully back. That said, the sight lines are betterwith it there and you're more likely to take the iPod with you as you get out of the D3.... the only down sie I can find is that it doesn't pause iPod playback if the IHU is switched off, but I guess that's common across all Dension implementations

Dazadd - the connectors on the low-line unit are shown as the same (C1354 & C2115) so the interface should be compatible - although you'll need the steering wheel buttons to get any benefit
Co-incidentally, I see that Harman-Kardon have announced a new version of their 'Drive-and-Play' ipod adaptor - from the blurb "The Drive+Play II addresses several common complaints with the original by adding a crisp, full-color display; a wireless controller; easier access to music (including a new search feature); voice prompts for no-look menu navigation; Bluetooth functionality for taking calls through the Drive+Play and your car stereo; and an optional adapter for Sirius Radio". Might save my pennies and have a look at that instead; the wireless nature will save me from breaking fascia clips, spring clips or snagging wires in my ham-fisted attempts at plumbing it in.

does 'wireless' = FM rebroadcaster? if so, i've got a PodGear unit you can have for £25£50
I think it's just the controller that's wireless, so you can put your knob anywhere (oo-er, Missus!). I surmise that the output has to be plumbed in - whether at the back of the IHU or the AUX socket point. IIRC, there are a couple of members with the current Drive-and-Play system.
Thanks for the offer - I have both an iTrip (£10) and a belkin adaptor (£20) wired in; the former for the short commute and the latter for longer trips. Both have their pros and cons.Time flies like an arrow; fruit flies like a banana

iPOD
Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I dont have an iPOD and figured this thread holds all the experts on said subject. Just wondered if (might prompt me to buy one) it has bluetooth facility or is there an add-on accessory for it?
Also, and again, a dumb question maybe, does it store files as MP3 or something else that I cant use elsewhere?
The current ipods have no built in wireless (bluetooth or otherwise) capability.
There are however numerous after market plug-ins and docks that will allow the ipod to be transmitted via FM. I have not seen a bluetooth transmitter though which would also allow for the transfer of data etc.
As far as the file format is concerned you can play most of them on the ipod including MP3. The ipod though, or more specifically i-tunes, being an apple product is by default set up to rip music to the more superior acc format (see http://www.apple.com/quicktime/technologies/aac/).
So if you want to rip music to i-tunes and then use the ripped files in another device/application that does not support aac then ensure that you set i-tunes to convert your ripped files to MP3.
There are many more things that I could add regarding the ipod and it's uses but I hope that answers your immediate questions. Back in the game!

Cheers DiscoDad,
So I can basically transfer all my MP3s onto the iPOD and not have to worry about coverting them first, and just play away?
That helps a lot. This was what was worrying me most.D3 HSE V8...
