Sorry to hear of all your problems. I only got my D3 this year and so far she's a beaut. My last D2 was also a ripper but my 98 Disco was good till 100Kms then issues but not horrendous. I hope your Cruze goes well. Friends of mine had a Captiva nicknamed the Craptiva due to so many issue they sold it after 2 years and got a Kluger. I don't know, I think all brands have issues. I had a new 2003 Prado diesel. I got rid of it after 3 years as TYoyota wouldn't fix warranty items that were suspension related and constant tyre wear.....lot's of forums about this too. So LR are not the worst either. all makes have design faults, all have constant warranty claims. Toyota is going through a huge slump in the USA at present. So I really get sick of reading all the constant negatives.
Anyway, I know you'll be glad to step into something new. Wash away the bad Karma and start anew. Good luck with it.

Yes... I am enjoying the Cruze. Much stronger acceleration and on average 45% less fuel costs each week.
I wrote a 4 page letter to LRA telling them of my problems and GPS with the car. (Grief, Pain & Suffering) and yesterday I received a letter from them.... It didn't address any of my issues.. basically thanks for your comments.
In the same mail I got a letter from Holden. Many thanks for buying your new car from us. Please accept this small gift with our compliments and this is our customer service phone number if you have any issues.
Have just finished reading the 1987 book..."Wheels of misfortune... the rise and fall of the British Motor Industry"
It is a good read... i wish I had of read it before I bought the Disco. I chose it over a Pajero Exceed.
I really think that Land Rover believe that they are immune to the laws of engineering. EG The suspension compressor failures.... the car had been in production for 5 years now and still this is an issue. Any other manufacturer from say BMW to Benz would have solved the problem by now.
Bad choice. I am really envious of those of you who have had a trouble free run. My main issue in the end wasn't the car, but rather the dealer and LRA's attitude to the faults it has developed. By friend the lawyer still wants me to join with him and launch a class action against Land Rover for knowingly selling cars that are intrinsically faulty.
He thinks Land Rover might be the ones building the A380 engines
Cheers
Have a good weekend.

My friend with a Pajero recently spent two weeks in Woomera - after the rear diff failed. Apparently Mitsubishi only replace a particular clip on the input after it has failed - even though they know it fails for those driven offroad. He also had to have his roof repaired after the factory roofracks caused damage due to excessive loading. Moral: no manufacturer is immune from faults or oversights.

Mark T My D3 has been off the road for repairs or recalls for much, much longer than yours. Hasn't stopped me from using the vehicle in some pretty rough conditions.
Good luck with your Korean-based GM products. I've had one from Korea - I'll be kind and just say that quality is not as good as British cars!
I am now also off - for 3 weeks - from Sydney to Darwin and return. 8)
Cheers,

Re the Pajero.. my nephew had one back in 1992 that blew a diff on Frazer Island. it seems that a few had gone out the door with front and back diffs of different ratios.
Yes.. my Korean Cruze.. only time will tell... but in all honesty I have never owned a car before with so many faults as the D3. And I wouldn't mind if it had done 160,000 plus ks and a lot of hard off road work. Mine just was driven around the suburbs and motorways.
I understand the D3 is a complex beast.. but why release a car onto the market with flaws that continue on after 5 years. Crook diffs, ball joints and suspension bushes that are clagged at 65,000K
This is simply not acceptable on a "Premium" vehicle.
My cousin in the UK had so much trouble with his 06 D3 diesel that he ditched it after 2 years and bought a diesel X5 BMW. Yes, I know it won't do off road well.. but as he says.. you turn the key, it goes and only visits the dealer for services.
Cheers

Goodness me, Mark - enough - you got a bad one, move on. Good luck with the Cruze. I hope for Holden's sake it is a good one. This is an English based site but the majority of whinging is coming from the Aussie side.

Hi Mark,
It seems funny to me that you have sold your D3, but continue to haunt us. As others have said, move on and give us a break. The Bearded Dragon

Sorry I am haunting you guys.. truly!
I guess my final point is this...
I really find it hard to understand how owners of cars with so many faults and have such a high level of unreliability etc can "forgive" Land Rover because the cars are so good in the bush etc.
So.. no more haunting.. sorry if I have offended any of you folks.. it wasn't my intent.
So long

Well on a positive note my LR3 has done 50,000 k's with only a leaking windscreen washer bottle (replaced under warranty) and the brake recall for the oil to the booster issue.
My BMW X5 (same age as the LR3, both bought new in 2006) has had the starter motor replaced under warranty and no other issues.
On my small sample the Germans and the Brits are even.
Maybe I have been lucky.

Hi guys.. thought I'd drop in for a visit. |
|
The Disco is long gone though my selling dealer still writes letters to me telling me it is due for a service. (Got one today in fact)
After 4 months of Holden Cruze Diesel ownership I find my motoring costs are down by 55%.
Amazing.
The little diesel is grunty.. much quicker off the line than the Disco V6 petrol and despite being driven hard (I am a lead foot) returns around 29 MPG around town. Do miss the auto wipers though.
6000 km and so far not a problem.
(At 6000k the Disco had issues)
Hope you're all keeping well and getting good service from your Landies.
The price comparison thread (compared to USA/Europe) is interesting. A similar discussion on another forum is raging over the Australian price of Austrian built KTM motorcycles. Nearly twice the price here when compared to UK/USA prices.
Take care all.

SINCE THAT WONDERFUL DAY OF PICKING IT UP, I HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT TROUBLE
"In May of 2006 I bought a 2004 Holden Cruze. The vehicle wasn't actually registered until 2005 and was bought from a Ford dealer in NSW. When taking purchase of the vehicle the car only had 5000k's on it, so everyone thought that it was going to be a good buy.
Since that wonderful day of picking it up, I have had nothing but trouble. Problems such as:
- having no speedo, no odometer, no a/c,
- passenger airbag deployed by itself when I had to hit the brakes hard,
- seat belt pretensioners has gone off whilst driving and
- ABS & Traction Control doesn't work on a good day,
- windows wont work,
- fan belt broken 3 times in 3 months,
- cracked alloy wheel (which I had to pay for as it was classed as wear and tear),
- window tint peeling off,
- central locking - vehicle wont unlock, then wont lock, has dead locked me inside the vehicle whilst have been starting it, bonnet wont release.
With the reputation of dealers and warranty claims in my mind I thought that this would cost me a small fortune. Now living in Brisbane there are several dealerships that offered me different services. Most said would replace, one said would only cover half the cost as it could come under wear and tear? What I don't understand is that what part of an airbag going off (without being in an accident), is part of wear and tear? And the computer going as well?
Also I had the problem of getting a flat tyre in the middle of whoop whoop with no jack. Having the car being covered under Holden Warranty as well as 3 month 2nd hand warranty no one wanted to replace the jack and the wheel brace. The Ford dealer said to go to Supercheap Auto as they maybe cheap and easy to get. Holden said I wasn't the original purchaser so nothing that they can do.
Being a gay male I knew that I was getting the run around. Thank GOD for dad, after chasing them up everyday to see where the jack was Ford came through with the jack, to then have it lost in the freight coming to Brisbane. I have just given up. Until one day it arrived via courier unannounced.
This is the first car that I have bought brand new and it sucks that we put all this money into buying these hunks of **** and then they don't work and then the dealers won't have a bone of it ...Holden NEVER AGAIN!
Has anyone heard of such drama with a vehicle?"

Hmmmm. I purchased a new Holden Cruze in 2005. It was our 1st new car, so excited. We traded it in 2007 as quick as a dealer offered us money for it.
Before it had done 20,000km the front suspension had to be replaced but it wasn’t covered under warranty as it was ‘wear and tear’? Pardon me but a mum of 2 pushing 40 driving to school and dancing lessons and shops on nice sealed roads – what do they mean ‘wear and tear’? I had the pervious car for 15 years and it had done just over 450,000kms and it was running great, needed paint, only got rid of it because it was a 6 and the petrol was killing us.
The hatch lifty things got replaced 3 times under warranty and the A/C was dubious to say the least. I have spoken to unsuspecting people in shopping car parks with Cruze’s and commented on what a nice little car it is could they tell me about it as I am looking for something that size. I have had 3 people tell me about major suspension problems and 2 with major diff problems. None of them were satisfied with the help they received. I only found 1 happy couple, in their 60’s and had only had it for just under 10,000km’s.

As long as Mark Taylors doen't go wrong it will be fine.
Both Ford and Holden have reputations for refusing warranty claims. “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

The car (Cruze) you speak of is A Suzuki Ignis based car. And it did not come with traction control.. only ABS as an option.
(We had one for a studio runabout)
The current Cruze and this car share a common name only.
I think all manufacturers try to squim out of warranty when they can.
I am planning retirement in 3 years (or at least semi retirement) and want another 4WD.
To be honest I have no idea what to buy... what vehicle will give the least trouble.
Love the gay male bit!
Cheers

I know where you are coming from. Owning a D3 is like living with a woman who cheats on you, there is a limit to how many times you can forgive her.
I bought a Mitsubishi Challenger 12 months ago and have now done 23,000 km. So far so good.
I comes with a rear diff lock and trac control as standard fittings but it needs a 2" lift same as
i did with my coil sprung D3.
My adult kids think it is a better car to drive than the D3, I think they are wrong.
But it is a quiet and comfortable car and has 10 years drive train warranty.
I did the Canning Stock Route last year in it with no problems.
Once i get rid of the Peugeot i won't get another car with the blinker switch on the left hand side. Pete
