I was very tempted by a pre reg, but they're getting very scarce now (unless you want white) and big money. Cheapest one I found was in black and £52k with 10 miles. I phoned and it had sold that morning. 10 days ago, there were many more pre-regs about, but I couldn't risk getting one, until I knew if mine was written off or not.
There's still quite a few 16 plate Landmarks with up to 10k miles and the majority of these are £48,995-£49,995. Some are up for over £50k though. Almost all of them ex JLR, so no Service Plan, tow electrics very rare as well, but the majority have Privacy.
I spent at least 18 hours on the Internet and phone on Thursday and Friday, just missing out on 3 good ones and doing my head in as well. Every dealer I spoke to commented on them being "good stock" and extremely popular, which for once appears to be totally true!
Early Friday evening I found this, from a non LR dealer:
http://amtspecialistcars.co.uk/detail/2348...automatic/
Typically that's a good £3k+ less than LR dealers want
Had a good chat with the very friendly and knowledgeable sales guy. He was out of the office, but gave me his numbers etc. and said he'd get in touch in the morning. He did and I paid a deposit, hopefully I'll get up there on Tuesday to collect it.
It will need a service in 6 weeks, but it's done 3k miles less than my previous one. I'll be selling the side steps and wheels
Whilst I'd liked Waitomo Grey, I've always thought the Landmarks look really good in black. I'm not bothered by havIng a dirty black Disco either
I'm happy enough, I'll be paying almost £50 less a month and the final settlement in 4 years is a lot less as well. Although on past history, who knows how long I'll have this one for! 2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE

Wow, that was a hunt! I've been watching the market for very late D4's since I bought mine and it's remarkable how few there have been and how expensive they've become. There was a Graphite that turned up here recently which, with 64 miles on the clock, was being offered for sale at around £4,000 over new RRP, even allowing for a couple of extras. As I was reading your what you had to do, I was fearing that you'd eventually had to either buy a new one, or buy something else.
Glad you managed to find such a good one for a sensible cost in the end

Thank you all for your kind words.
The market for low mileage Landmarks has really picked up over the last fortnight, prices are rising and they really are moving fast.
I didn't look at Graphites, I think they exterior is nicer to look at than the Landmark, but I need the panoramic roof for the fraction extra headroom that it provides.
I was in same the same situation just 9 months ago and considered all the alternatives, but concluded that the D4 was pretty much my ideal vehicle for what I use it for and still is. Now of course the D5 is available, sadly it just doesn't tick all the boxes that the D4 does. Plus a similar spec. to the Landmark would be knocking on for £70k
I know the tech in the D4 is now old school, but that doesn't bother me. I still use CD's I still think it's a lovely ride, especially with smaller rims. I'll be fitting 18" Compomotives to this one.
I did think that if I was going to compromise, the split tail gate would be the one feature I would want to retain. So I really did think about a used FFRR. I even spent some time exploring underbody protection and joined the FFRR site. In the end though my head told me to get another Landmark and review the situation in 2 years time when the warranty expires. 2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE

Interesting.
I looked at the FFRR too before I bought D4 No 2. I took a V8 diesel for a test drive and turned around within 5 miles - it was a disappointment after the D4 as it felt too car like for me.
Unfortunately, my current D4 threw a fault today and has had to be recovered to the local dealer and I currently have a RRS on loan. It's very like the FFRR, but with too little headroom and boot space. Oddly, despite the weight and frontal area reduction, it feels a lot more lethargic than the D4 as well and it's definitely the V6 (I've even looked under the bonnet to check!).

Thanks Iggy, rather like the D4, prices of good late, low mileage 9-3 convertibles have risen a fair bit recently. Still waiting to hear back from Aviva on a settlement figure, some 10 days after assessing it a total loss and making a low offer. We've contacted them by text, email and phone everyday apart from Sunday and still they don't reply. A company I'll never ever use for any insurance product again.
I collected the D4 today and drove it the 181 miles home. It's in better condition than I expected. Just a barely noticeably mark on the tail gate, which I'll polish out myself and a chip on the oval LR badge on the tailgate handle. No rattles or squeaks that I could hear and all very "new" feeling. After 11 years, I still really enjoy the whole experience of driving these vehicles.
The EU6 engines are definitely faster than the previous ones, at least the ones I've owned and driven as loan cars etc.
The sidesteps and diamond turned 20" rims will need to be removed ASAP, but I need to do some work now I've got a comfortable vehicle again. 2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE

Hi,
glad thinks are moving in the right direction for you, D4 wise at least
Aviva were slow with our settlement a few years back, try not to let it all become "too much hassle" and take less than you thing is fair, I am sure it is method they use as some people will fold early rather than stick it out
May not be fair but saves them paying out as much
Must have been 6 or more offers before we agreed what was fair
Stick at them Transit! 2019

No problem.
For me the decision not to buy a used FFRR was down to the boot space being smaller than a D4 and the seats not folding down flat to create a level load space. Plus we do still occasionally use 6 or 7 seats.
