Manual Operation of FBH /Timed Climate
Ok, I can't figure this on out myself so I'll have to ask.....
I have a MY12 HSE with the timed climate (no remote).
The timed function works properly, it starts on time and runs for about 20 minutes, but there is also a manual heat and manual vent button on the screen. I can't figure out how to make these buttons useful.
If I go to the car and unlock it then turn the "infotainment system" on and go to the timed climate screen the buttons are greyed out. If I turn the ignition on and then off again they become active. If I press the manual heat button the FBH activates and then the blowers and warm air starts to blow in to the car until the dashboard display switches off on it's timer after 3 minutes and then the FBH shuts down. If I leave the car after starting the heater it shuts down as soon as I lock the car.
I assumed that the intended use of the manual heat button would be something like wake up on a cold morning and 20 minutes before you need to drive the car go out and switch it on so that you have a warm car when you want to set off. This doesn't seem to be possible unless you set the timer.
Any ideas how to use the manual buttons effectively?

Its likely to be that its dependent on the relevant external temperature parameters to operate 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

The 2 buttons are designed to work when your sat in the car ( Waiting for wife for example ) ... You switch on the radio and the buttons are unlocked . You can then heat / vent the car .
If you have the ignition on / or car running the buttons will be grayed out as you can manually heat / vent the car by the normal heater controls
Get the remote set up .... It's soooo much easierG4 Gone ...but not forgotten

The fuel tank of a discovery 4 doesn't hold enough diesel to heat the car whilst waiting for the wife
That makes more sense in terms of the way it works except that it shuts down when the dashboard goes to sleep after 3 minutes. Oh and of course the radio shuts down every 10 minutes anyway - great design (not!).

If you don't have the key in the ignition and you put the radio on ... It will stay on until such time as it thinks the battery is getting low.
It should last more than 10 mins ( and I'm not sure what your on about the 3 min thing !!)G4 Gone ...but not forgotten

I think they have changed it on the MY12 Adrian, if I am sitting in the car waiting with the key in my pocket (keyless entry) and I turn the radio on it will automatically turn off after approx 8-10 minutes, with my MY2011 it used to stay on much longerCheers Ian

Like Hairy Dan said: On the MY12 the radio goes off after 10 minutes unless the ignition is on. In the hidden menu there is an "After Run Timer" that you can watch counting down from 10 minutes.
The 3 minutes refers to the time that the picture of a discovery, date and mileage shows on the LCD display between the Tachometer and Speedometer. This stays on for 3 minutes after stopping the engine or opening the drivers door it switches off as soon as the vehicle is locked. If I've started the FBH manually with the button, the FHB switches off at the same time as this display. Regardless of whether the radio is on or off at that time.
So basically, the maximum run time I've been able to get from the FBH after staring it with the manual button on the display is 3 minutes. Either I'm missing something or the manual button is useless.
How much does it cost to add the remote to a MY12 HSE?

Can the remote be added aftermarket to the standard HSE timed climate on MY12 cars or is this limited to MY11 and below?Land Rover - Turning Drivers into Mechanics Since 1948

The remote comes in really useful if you don't go out at the same time each morning as the timed climate limits you somewhat. Cheers Ian
