Changed out the drivers side wheel bearing on Saturday morning and I've got to say after all the work it has had it feels like a brand new car even with 176k on the clock.

It is so smooth and quiet even I was surprised!

So now it's recently had

All the belts, waterpump, oil pump from Flack
Two front wheel bearings
Rear upper arms
Front lower arms
All the drop links, tie rods and ARB bushes front and back
Passenger rear door lock
Renewed one LED mirror cap as it had some water ingress

I'm very happy with it again now and can hopefully keep it out the garage. It's been very satisfying to do some of the mechancial work myself as part if the overhaul. Need to get it back for an alignment check as it very slightly drifts to the left but nothing drastic.

I do want to give it a proper exterior machine polish and replace the bonnet badges as they have faded quite badly but it's hopefully sorted until it's next service in Jan.

Not bad for 176k! Im very happy with how this has turned out. I managed to get the side trims, air vents and H trim side pieces in gloss black.

I got hit again ... stop start traffic and a little Peugeot drives straight in to the back of me.

Her car has been written off and my rear bumper has suffered a few scuffs and a crack. That's the second time recently while I've been stationary! Anyway it's gone in for a respray and repair and I've got a horrific Ford Galaxy hire car!

Disco was resprayed and looking better than ever so bit the bullet and did a 4/4.5 front end as well.

The 4.5 lights are still too expensive for such an old car (famous last words) so did a 2014 bumper and 2012 lights as we're picked up with wings for a reasonable price.

All bolt on with a bit of cutting required on the plastic ducting on the D3.

Snags to sort out

Realign wings as they are a bit out
Paint front bumper
PDC and Fogs don't work as connectors are totally different. I think this needs an earlier d4 bumper loom
Washer piping is different so might try the hardware from the old bumper
Fast flash from indicators so need to add relays
AfS Warning light as new ones are not AFS
Need a new grill as the old one doesn't fit

Looks good though Laughing

Swapped out the old dinged side steps for some nice new ones with black trim.

Was delighted all the old brackets were solid (apart from one I twisted getting the step off!) and the sills on very close inspection have not rusted at all.

Nearly every bolt that holds the steps to the brackets had rusted through and snapped off making removal pretty easy!

So to continue the work of DISCO3HSE2018, we have ordered and now received the headlight security plates and a new spare wheel winch, to be fitted in the next few days.
We had a brake pipe let go, so that was replaced and we are intending to replace the majority of them soon.
The Disco is due an mot in Feb and a service around the same time.
We have noticed the rear diff bushes are starting to wear, so they will probably be done the same time as the brake pipes as the exhaust needs to removed for both jobs.
Lucky my eldest son is massively into cars and has a workshop he rents with a couple of mates.

Other jobs to do once the service and mot are out the way is to get the wheels refurbished and new tyres, maybe all terrains, not sure yet.

That will keep us busy for now.
Hope you have all had a great Christmas.
John.
