Is the selector shaft seal leaking? the back of the gearbox look a bit oily.
I've now had a good look, and I'm not sure. There probably isn't actually much oil, and neither the gearbox or transfer were losing any quantity.
I'm not sure the transfer breather was plugged in. The car has had a clutch done before (in situ) and I wonder if the breather had ever been plugged in. There is possibly more dampness on the transfer box than the gearbox.Richard

I think it's very clever how you've got that bar to float above the axle stand ! Lower gravity in Norfolk ? I want to see the sweets before I get into your windowless van... I'm not stupid!

Massive credit to u getting the gearbox out , must confess was shocked with the condition of the DMF
Hope all the rest is straight forward , plus hope u don’t mind me asking and if u get chance , would it be possible to take some pics of the back of the engine, cross over pipe etc whilst the gearbox is out plse as never seen it and would find it very interesting
Hope u didn’t mind me asking , many thks

I wish the gravity were lower! Gravity helped me get the gearbox down, not sure it's going to help me putting it back!Richard

Thank u so much and extremely appreciated
What make did u go for in the end please , on my old series landies I always use to fit borg and beck , can still remember all the hassle of getting the seat box and floor bolts out
Almost forgot and apologises for the daft questions, never seen a DMF , is it to help reduce vibration please, thks and sorry for all the questions, just very interested
At least at the end of the day ur saving a fortune doing all the work urself as dread to think what a dealer would charge

I'm not rushing it, so I've probably put in 5 hours or so to get the gearbox out. It's awkward rather than difficult.
The space around the gearbox just isn't big enough to get any purchase on some of the bolts. Still, I've got it out now, so it's not impossible.Richard
