I’m one of the lucky few who has a decent dealer. My salesman looks after me well and I can’t really fault the service department.

Hopefully LR have the Hybrid Defender ready from launch.

I do get the odd discount but it’s the whole package, discount on the new car, good trade in price plus other bits thrown in.

I drove an RRS SVR today, what a beast! Salesperson said they can’t move the D5 and it will require a complete redesign. He said they will make significant changes to the Disco Sport to boost sales and then they hope LR tackles the D5 update after the Defender sales roll on.

Hopefully they’ll be giving LR plenty of feedback on that so that they can get it right next time.

It’s a bit reminiscent of Chris Bangle’s days at BMW. BMW styling has managed to not only recover, but thrive since those dark days. LR might be able to move on to better things too. The Velar and new Evoque might be clones and not especially practical (although they don’t need to be practical) but at least they look good Thumbs Up The new Defender is unlikely to be a relevant successor to the original, but the shape looks good and it looks like it might be practical too. The signs are hopeful Very Happy

Just think how hopeful it would look if they were to make a pick up.

Following one of our regular trips to Glenmore I noted that there was not one D5 tow car 😳
Usually during a walk round the site when it’s full I would see all that LR has to offer including many Discoveries of all ages being the family tow car of choice. Same this year but not one D5 on site nor any to be seen in Aviemore or the surrounding area.
Maybe just a coincindence Whistle

By the very action of going more mainstream and chasing the volume sales of the more ordinary/nondescript SUV’s, it now no longer has that ultimate tow car appeal and knock out status in tow car Top Trumps! Rolling Eyes Sure, it can still (mostly) tow 3.5 tonnes and is probably just as capable, certainly when fitted with 6, but it doesn’t make the same statement that turning up with a Disco used to.

In a way the designers have really succeeded in making it pretty indistinguishable from a BMW or a Volvo. So why not just buy an XC90, or an X5 and save a shed load of cash. Alternatively, if you you’d prefer not to give the impression that you’re something in advertising, consultancy or recruitment and even get dirt under your fingernails during the week, save even more and get a Ford Ranger, or similar Thumbs Up

silly me, I misquoted the D5 sales figures, it was 144 units for the month, not 150.

Australia, has a population of just under half of England

I’ve only seen 3, D5’s on the road since it was released in 2017.

Not if you leave a market sector that you once dominated to be a “me too” design, in a larger market sector, against much bigger and wealthier competitors; competitors that are capable of eye watering discounts and other substantial sales support. Just think of the level of “pricing support” that BMW will have given to buy the police’s business nationwide - and in JLR’s own backyard too!

I can absolutely understand LR’s frustration when the X5 outsold the D4 5:1, but the ‘5 has (at best) only given them very modest growth figures, while Volvo has since made a lot of inroads into the D4’s traditional customer base.
