Tailgate

Thanks for that information I will clamber in, getting the trim off without damaging it seem the most problematic part,

Hi all

My tailgate won’t open on my 2013 D4, going to have a look at it on the weekend, does Geoff still make the improved actuator cables ? Or do I have to buy a new lock mechanism with a new cable

Thanks for any help or advice

Paul

My lower tailgate won’t open...the top opens fine. Would this be the same fix (?) and if so does this chap Geoff still sell the part required? Thanks for
Any help.

My tailgate wont open via the key fob (well it does once in about 50 times). But it WILL open when you press the lock/unlock and someone opens the boot for you.

Any suggestions what this might be?

I shall give another tip.

Firstly spend nearly 30 quid on a replacement micro switch but then be intrigued as to what happens when you do the similar lock/unlock trick from the dashboard but instead try it from your key fob.

So I pressed both for 10 seconds and the car went ballistic. Hazards flashing 10 to the dozen and horn blaring out. Upshot none of the doors on the car would lock but set off the alarm when opened. But lo and behold the tailgate opened fine. Left it because I had to go into work. 8 hours later (yes I work all those hours lol) I came back pressed unlock and the tailgate still opens.

2 days later and it is still working fine yet it hadn't for 3 weeks. Do I tempt fate and send the switch back or just replace it anyway.

Oh I love the logic of land Rovers

Ezu000010pva for the 4 annoying screw caps.
Eyp500250 for the screws themselves.

Just in case you drop them, and surprisingly cheap at less than a quid each.

OK ... so it's seven year on but I just used your post to help me get my tailgate openm after it failed this week so... many thanks.
As it turns out there's nothing wrong with the cable but the solenoid is knackered, giving a very weak pull on the cable.

I think I have the same problem re solenoid.

I can hear something clicking (albeit faintly) when I press the latch on the outside.
Its been stuck for a week and then this morning randomly opened just after I'd got all the junk out of the boot via the back seats. Yay I thought to myself, and of course it now jammed shut again.

I suspect that the cable is fine as it wouldn't have opened this morning but the click when I press the latch is much fainter and does not give the robust noise it used to ... Were your symptoms the same?

I am with Warranty Direct and am tempted to let the Dealer sort it but can't get a booking in for a month and they are not doing courtesy cars any more!

Sounds the same as mine. Actuator on its way out and would only work 1st thing in the morning when cool.
Get a new actuator and use DM’s directions. But if you do it before it completely packs up you won’t have the same problems as the broken cable peeps.

I had a new cable fitted about 8 years ago, so that is ok. You might want to do that at the same time.

Decided to bite the bullet and replace the upper tailgate actuator on mine this morning and after a week of being stuck the tailgate opened first try!! Steady half hour job thanks to this guide and it now works with a nice thud instead of a little click.

So mine has decided to fail this morning. Makes all the right sounds and probably moving quicker than normal but no clunk. Presume it’s the cable. Now to get a new cable and crawl through to open it. Big Cry

sorry to hijack this "old" Fred.

My tailgate is not opening and I gained access to the actuator behind the carpet from the inside. Have pulled the cable but it is not opening the upper gate. I can feel the lock inside the lower gate following the cable from the actuator.

But pulling the wire is not releasing the lock.

Hopefully someone came across my problem and can share his solution.
