Dr Tranny

Hi Folks,
Did mine about 6 weeks ago with the car lifted on the RHS. Has made an amazing difference, the shudder has totally gone now. The next job is to get the BMW transmission pan added & the gearbox flushed at the same time. I will be putting more Dr.T in at the same time.
Regards, Dale

Do it at the cooler but not the hose. I assume the hose has a valve in it that stops/slows the fluid flowing back down the hose. No such problem with the cooler itself. Take the hose off the cooler keep it raised get a small piece of spare hose on the cooler pipe and add dr.t straight to the cooler. Goes straight in as quick as you can empty the tube. Put the cooler hose back. Job done. 2 minutes!

Nice, going to try this method for the 2nd tube sometime in the coming weeks.

Tried the methode as described and indeed, THIS IS THE EASIEST METHOD TO ADD DR TRANNY !!
Once you found a tube that fits it is just a 2 minute job, no jacking, not getting under the car, just one flat screwdriver and a tube, job done! Very Happy
I've used Dr Tranny before but still surprised after adding it! It really does what the package says: Instant shudder fix. Bow down

Bought one, it arrived today, but have decided against adding it as I'm having the box taken out on Tuesday and a new TC fitted along with the metal sump pan, separate filter and new oil Big Cry

Hoping to add some DR T to my box today.

Any one know what the internal diameter of the hose on to the cooler is? Then I can get a piece ready before I begin.

Cheers

Didn't really measure the diameter of the cooler connection. The internal diameter must be about 11-12mm I guess.

Maybe an extra note about this super stuff: it is only a temporary solution!
The first time you add the Dr. Tranny it helpes for quite a long time (10000km?), but the time is shorter every new tube you add I noticed. After the 2nd time it still works perfect but I start to feel judder again after 5000km.
I'm trying to find a good "mega flusher" in Belgium and see how long this will keep the TC happy. I suppose I'll need a new TC anyway some time ...

I agree bsm. The Dr Tranny alters the nature of the paper friction "plates" in the torque converter to allow them to function better. It is probably a bad analogy, but it displaces bad impurities with good stuff.

However, if those paper surfaces have become damaged over time, there is only so much that the additive can do, especially if you are not changing the fluid (which may contain what is damaging the friction surfaces). My view is that if you need the Dr Tranny, you also need a transmission fluid flush as well. This may well prevent damage to the automatic transmission.

It is only used for an auto. It goes in the Automatic Transmission Fluid that circulates through the Automatic Transmission and Torque Converter.

Hello,

Can this be added as an enhancement, or should it be avoided until the gearbox develops judder etc?

Mine is an NAS 05 V8 with 84000 miles. This was the first gearbox oil change. I removed the old and added approx 9 liters of fresh Lifegard 6. I had attempted to change the pan and filter as well, but after breaking two torx bits and stripping one of the pan bolt heads, i've concluded that the original pan will staying on for the life of the gearbox Smile

I just finished doing a gearbox flush and figured before I replace the lines back on the oil cooler, this would be the time to add it.

Thoughts?

In the past few weeks Crost and I have both had gearbox flush. I had judder at 110,000 miles. Did 1000 miles on fresh oil and judder still present but gearbox smoother otherwise. Yesterday added 2 tubes of Dr Tranny and judder and wandering revs seem banished.

Be interesting to see how long fresh oil and Dr Tranny keep things smooth given BSM said Dr Tranny with old oil give dimishing returns.

a bit of a long shot, But currently out in Prague, having driven to Slovakia for 10 days and now starting to head home via a stop in Germany and then 3 nights in Amsterdam.

I have a shudder, around 30mph under acceleration before the change for 3rd to 4th. Does anyone know if i can pick up some Dr Tranny out this way, or were is best to buy from in the uk on my return home?

Many thanks

Simon
