You haven't seen a D5 yet
Of course, we can dismiss the PhotoShop fantacies that get posted as irrelevant. But, we can be sure that it will be virtually identical to the "Vision Concept", with just a few tweaks to make it a production reality.
I'm sure that it'll sell very well, rather better than the D4 I suspect and it'll give more direct competition to tall estate cars, like the X5 or Q7. It will, however, lose a lot of existing customers who are looking for practicality and traditional LR looks over and above what is briefly fashionable.2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2

Loads on here did not like the D3 when it came out and said they would not have a D4 but hey ho we all drove D3s and raved about them and many have D4s now. Bet most will have a D5 as well and in time rave about it to. Bet most will have a D5 sooner than they currently like to admit.MY17 D5 1st Edition Namib Orange

It does depend on function though. The D3 was more than capable fulfilling the D2's needs; it was primarily the styling that was criticised. The D5 will no doubt also be a very capable vehicle, but this time round, thanks to the success of the D3/4, practicality may be infringed on. TBH, in LR's own words it will be more luxurious which is, by definition, mutually exclusive with more practical, so I don't think it's unreasonable to say that the D5 will be less practical.
I think, however, there is every possibility that the D5 will have more significant changes from the Disco Vision - LR have told us it will be very similar, but after due consideration, I find that to be a wholly subjective and open statement which gives a far less accurate description than it might seem to initially; it's very clever of LR as it makes us think we know more as facts than we actually do...Current: Discovery 3 06MY (55 reg) HSE Auto Zambezi Silver Allisport Fast Road Intercooler, V8 Brakes, Silicone IC Hoses, EGRs Blanked, Remapped, De-Cat pipe, FBHIC

Not sure I agree with the styling issue LfW I despite being an old school LR owner thought the styling fantastically modern land rover and it still holds up. And on the Land rover forum I was on at the time the big issues were the increasing reliance on electronics and body off for certain jobs dislike of the styling was fairly low.==================================

My sum is quite simple:
1/ Size of the cargo area when using 5 seats.
2/ Purchase price / residuals
3/ Lower tailgate (working shelf)
4/ Design / toys
If it doesn’t beat the competition in say 3 out of 4 requirements then I’m afraid I’m off. For me, each new model has diluted the massive permagrin I used to get with my old D3. They might be selling loads of expensive cars around the world right now, but fashion is a fickle master!

The styling was really criticised and so was all the electronics and I remember one guy on here saying how the dash would creak and groan and rattle in no time I do think in time the D3 will be remembered as the most practical and versatile LR ever, would I get rid of my D4 for one? No chance and I'm fairly confident the D5 will be better still, just different.DS3 TDV6 HSE - Silver with Alpaca (old one) Gone

But, it's easy to get an unrepresentative view:
A proportion of D4 drivers will change to the D5 and continue on the site, whilst a proportion of D4 owners will look at the D5 and (when it's not to their liking) downgrade their D4's to something from another manufacturer.
Whilst those that have changed to the D5 remain on the site, those that have been lost leave. With only those that have changed to the D5 remaining, it would appear that everyone likes the new car and has bought one and it's only a matter of time before someone posts that "everyone was complaining when it was launched and now they have all upgraded!" 2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2

True, but I'm leaving electrics etc. out of it, because that's not going to be a factor with the D5 - I mean it will have compex electrics, but we know they're pretty proven and reliable enough. That said, there could be new features that could cause concern. Obviously, differen't places were drawing different criticism, but I certainly know that a huge number of people I spoke to didn't like the D3 shape/styling at all.
The main thing is though, that the D3 wasn't hugely criticised for what it was intended to do. It was very clear that it was designed as a functional and practical vehicle like the D2 it replaced. With the D5, this is now totally different - we are not necessarily concerned about how the D5 will do its job, but rather what its job will be, so the two situations are not comparable in that regard.
The D5 will probably be an excellent vehicle, but it will certainly be different and many of us recognise that that may present issues for us. I don't think that's something that can be relegated as a temporary folly.

Doesn't really matter what the looks are as long as the owner likes them
I've managed to own a few over the years and have favourites in both 3 and 4 versions
The D4 has gone to Yeovil (high spec XS in case anyone is after one with a known history) the D5 pregnancy begins ( hope I'm not waiting more than 9 months )
Had the new RRS and currently filling in with an FFRR, both impressive products
- IMHO few will be dissapointed with a D5 overcoat on that platform in the areas of quality, off road ability and ride - cost and practicality to be determined I guessIllegitimi Non Carborundum

It was’t the electronics that caused a problem in the original D3… it was the dealers that couldn’t cope with mending electricity. They still had workshops full of Defender lump hammers for fine tuning! Thankfully things have now improved a bit.

If it does what my current Disco can do and the money is right then I probably will have one September 2017. I prefer the current styling but isn't a deal changer for me and with it being based on the Range Rovers D7u platform it should be a good drive.
I don't really want to be paying close to Range Rover money for a Discovery though.23.5MY Defender 90 X-Dynamic SE D250 MHEV Pangea Green
