Decided to take the Disco yesterday morning for a change. Started her up, and I had 3 error messages: Handbrake fault, Tranmission Fault and HDC fault......
Called Landrover Assist ( I live in France) they asked me when it would be suitable for them to collect it, very impressed (normally in france you don't get the choice!!!). So she will be towed away in shame today.....
I assume it is only a software glitch. She is only 8 months old. Anyone have similar problems/error messages....

Thanks for the reply. There didn't appear to be any signs of low battery, as she turned over without any hesitation. I drove her on Sunday for several hours, which was the last time I drove it.

I have been wondering how quickly the battery can run down, especially having heard/read that you need do do a few miles each time the car is used to keep the battery in proper shape, i.e. constant short journeys are not necessarily the best thing for it.
Here in the wonderful country of public transport my car normally gets used only at weekends and maybe a pretty short run during the week if she is really lucky. I often start her up and see the "low power mode" on the radio panel which can be present for up to 5 minutes of the journey.
I guess this is a reasonable indicator of the battery power. Has anyone linked this warning with battery power by measuring the battery output when this warning is present? Life is what you make it.

one of the things that was done on my recent service was a full battery recharge. I was getting these messages most mornings, it now turns over much quicker, and no more errors.

so, to conclude, getting such messages is the ONLY sign that sooner or later a battery replacement is due??
i was also wondering whether a new battery can be fitted by us? or will be a mess in the electronic system of the car as soon as the old battery will be taken away?? has anyone done this??

So long as you make sure the car is 'asleep' before disconnecting the battery, you should be ok. To do this, make sure the doors are closed, and the key has been removed for 2 minutes, and the time has disapeared from the radio display.

Not necessarily an indication of battery replacement (although the procedure Gareth mentions is correct ) due to the lead-calcium technology used in the battery's construction, once the charge drops below ~70% a bench charge is the only way to recover the battery capacity. The warnings mentioned are a good indicator of progressive discharge. On average, it takes 7 miles of driving (with the engine revs >1500) to put back the charge consumed by starting the vehicle. Cumulative effects of short journeys and prolonged inactivity / low temperatures can extend the recharge times.
Note that the charger must be suitable for Lead-Calcium batteries, a standard charger will not fully charge the battery...

Hi,
I had error messages coming up prior to my last service and Land Rover said it was due to the battery not being fully cha rged, they stuck it on charge for a couple of hours and I have had no problems since.

Had the same problem but mine turned out to be a blown driver's side brake bulb - a favourite habit of the car. However, this time it was shorting the circuit out so the system check thought the handbrake was applied permanently causing the other warning lights. Only occurred when the headlights were actually on. I normally have the headlight switch set to auto so the fault appeared intermittent without me connecting it with the lights coming on!
