Access height suspension ? ? ? ?

Does anyone know if it is possible to programme the suspension to lower to access height when you turn off the ignition to help my short legs get in and out of the D3?

Or is there a good reason not to do this?

Not possible AFAIK, just have to get yourself into the habit of dropping it down before switching off (or get platform soles Wink )

And if you have guests inside your D3... make sure they don't open the doors or the thing won't drop at all until all doors are closed again and you'll be stuck, legs a danglin

Thanks for your replies. I thought this was the case, but if anyone knew if it was possible it would be here.

Just in case you think you are corresponding with a Hobbit, I would like to point out my legs are of a very average length, I was really asking for my 6 year old. Honest.

not that i'm aware of... you could always flick the paddle as you're pulling into a parking space, working with the key off / out signal wouldn't help much as height changes are prevented when the doors are open - the next logical step after taking the key out Wink

What I do is this.

I ask Cindy to give me approximately 100yds warning before she wants to stop and get out of the car. At this point I slow down and press the button to lower the car Wink So when we come to stop the vehicle has lowered enough for us to get out of the vehicle safely Thumbs Up

What really gets me is that I have to wait ages for SWMBO to get in and put the handbag down in the footwell, hold the door open, then position the bum on the seat, do up the seatbelt, pull door closed, adjust clothing so that seatbelt isn't crushing said clothing, flip down the sunvisor, check the lippy and then look at me as if "What are you waiting for?"

In the meantime. I have walked the long way around the car, slipped in, key in the ignition, belted up, heard the "bong", started engine whilst she is still placing the bag at the footwell.

BUT - getting out is another matter... She has unbelted, grabbed the bag and is opening the door BEFORE it has had a chance to return to Access height.

So I often wonder, is it me or is it my driving that prompts the quick exit?

* first ran a bearing (design failure in original engine)
* second had a failure of the water outlet on top of the engine (pls check yours)

However if get out then want it lowered when you get back in you have to have the hazards on for remote lower to work.
Just thought: attach a remote operated switch to the hazard lights.
Press open.
press hazards on.
Press LR button and down.
Get in at access height.

For anatomical reasons I have to drop mine but I do it as I pull up rather than stop and lower ....if you get my drift Laughing

From the 'Training' literature on GTR:-

"Access mode can be pre-selected when the
vehicle is moving. The vehicle will partly lower as the
vehicle speed decreases, lowering to the full access
mode height when the vehicle reaches 5 mph (8 km/h).
If the required road speed is not reached within a
predetermined time, the air suspension will return the
vehicle to the previously selected height."

Almost always, I will reverse into a parking space, so I flip the height lever (either up, or down depending on whether I need extra protection from my side-steps or child friendly access) when I select reverse. This always gives the car enough time to get to the chosen height before a door is opened, so this may be a good approach for you.

I choose to reverse in 'cos I like to show people that not only should it have been possible in that diagonally parked micra(insert name of small safety-cage of choice) but I can do it in my three tonne 'unmanouverable / too big for the road' (not my words) car in one go and leave it evenly between the white lines. Also it makes driving away a lot easier/safer IMHO.
