second battery
running it in parallel works fine but i would prefere the peice of mind of having a split charge system, it's nice to know that if you do leave something on all night that you can still start your car in the morning.
if you dont fancy a full split charge monitoring system just put a big relay between the battery's and have it switched from the ignition.
battery wise i would use a Optima yellow top. small, light, loads of power. and it fits in the space.CLUB "Ah Shor it'll be grand"

What Chris said - i've fitted a fair few now without any issues, the Optima yellow-top will accept the D3's higher charge voltage without causing any loss of capacity

Thanks guys.
I'm doing a "to-do" list for when I finally get a D3. Optima yellow top it will be.
the yellow top (the smallest but one) fits fine. I'd put that one in combination with a split charge. D4

Hi Horness, the pic bellow shows an Optima D34 in the D3’s spare battery compartment and the bracket, which is the genuine LR bracket and is a lot cheaper than any of the alternatives.
Make sure if you get the LR bracket that you get the correct one as the bracket that comes with the cranking battery in the D3 and RRS is is offset in the opposite direction to the one you need for the Auxiliary battery ( left hand or right hand drive ).

Thanks drivesafe - that looks great. Thanks for the advice about the bracket too - I'll make sure I get the aux one when I eventually do it.
How easy is it to get a feed back into the cabin on a D3?

Hi again Horness, I haven’t tried to run cable back through the D3 yet but others on here have so they should be able to give you the low-down.

Getting a supply into the cabin is very easy, especially if you have an Auto - there is a grommet adjacent to the brake servo. As an alternative to the LR battery hold-down, I used 6mm threaded bar and 10mm square bar many times - about £3 including the M6 full nuts & washers

Excuse me for digging up an old Topic (using Search function), but does the cover fit on properly with the Yellow-Top in there???Regards,
