Mkne was checked this morning and was deemed okay. I was surprised as they're is some movement in it. Anyway I've updated the owners manual with the new bit. Funny thing is it states a few facts but it doesn't say anywhere that it's for occasional use only. Instead it says no more than 150kg nose weight, don't leave fitted when not in use and make sure brake safety cable is secured to another part of the cross member not the detachable bit. Oh and we've all got to get the proper storage bit. Going by the wording I'm guessing this will now become a quick part of regular servicing

Russell, from what my dealer told me when I phoned them they are not contacting people, they will just look at it when it next comes in.
But they also said all they do is put a blue sticker on the towbar and some additional information in the handbook, so perhaps they are not the best example.Andy

If you read the second post in this thread JLR will be sending out a letter to all registered owners ...not the dealers.21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

Had mine serviced last week (didn't have tow bar fitted as it's removable and I wasn't towing ).
Have just found the supplement tucked into front of handbook
Presume I may still get letter advising to book in for a check?
Anyone know how long it takes to fit the heavy duty tow bar?, I'd assumed there were just a couple of bolts needed to hold the supporting arms onto the chassis? Also do the existing electrics from a removable tow bar need to be altered and does it interfere at all with the full sized spare wheel?

I've fitted a couple of fixed towbars, takes about an hour at easy tea drinking pace. Best to drop the spare wheel out of the way and the stiffeners you need to insert into the chassis members take a wee bit of working out but straightforward enough with big spanners.
As above, doesn't take too long. When I bought my current D3, I brought it down from Cheshire one day, fitted the towbar the next and had to tow with it the next day. In bit of a rush as Enterprise wanted their FL2 back (was on hire for nearly a month - must have cost someone a fortune ). Luckily, I'd done it before.
Electrics are the same and the spare wheel is fine. Current: Discovery 3 06MY (55 reg) HSE Auto Zambezi Silver Allisport Fast Road Intercooler, V8 Brakes, Silicone IC Hoses, EGRs Blanked, Remapped, De-Cat pipe, FBHIC

Hi ALL
Been reading the thread re tow bars just put mine in as been a while since I towed with this one .
NOT good rattles around and a good 2inch lift up and down and the same either way side to side .
Would this be considered beyond normal movement and need a new cross member ??
That's is definitely a bad one. FWIW, with the arms off, my fixed one has zero movement at all. Current: Discovery 3 06MY (55 reg) HSE Auto Zambezi Silver Allisport Fast Road Intercooler, V8 Brakes, Silicone IC Hoses, EGRs Blanked, Remapped, De-Cat pipe, FBHIC

2 inches is way, way too much. I'm surprised the tow bar even stays in it's socket with that much play. Something is seriously broken. I'd get it in to be looked at before towing anything. Mine was about 5mm up/down/side/side and was considered too much by LR.
