Ive retrofitted a few block heaters to different makes of cars over the years, incl disco 1/2/merc petrolv8, defender diesels etc
Greta when they work, but can be a financial pain when they go wrong.
All the diesels were fine, but I can remember the merc v8 worked well but as the engine ecu saw the coolant was warm it assumed the engine was warm and didnt give it any extra fuel for a cold start which led to a few flutters, it always started but didnt burst into life like it would when cold, but the one I fitted was totally remote form the cars canbus system basically a stand alone set up.

A great feature - I took my 6 year old out this morning and he walked straight to the front of the car and asked what the noise was. If you don't have timed heat enabled, it's a fantastic feature and well worth getting it coded

How do you get timed heat / remote heater to work / enabled?
Or
How would I know I have it on my D4?
I definately know the FBH is there because I can hear it, smell it, I get a half defrosted bonnet first and clouds of smoke from under the front LH wheel arch on cold mornings.
D4 is MY13 HSE

To see if you already have timed climate click on extra features on your sat nav screen and if you have it there will be a button for it.
If not, to get timed climate to work you need somebody with a diagnostic tool to enable the setting, if you want remote heating also you will need a receiver, aerial and remote plipper and also have it enabled. I think most of the sponsors now sell the parts needed but you will need one close to you to enable it Cheers Ian

Eberspaecher do make & have agents who can do this...the online brochure is here:
http://issuu.com/eberspaecher/docs/fh_pkw_...14/5480573
They used to quite common on vehicles exported to Canada I am led to beleive & were factored by Bosch / Blaupunkt dealers here & there in the UK.
They also used to fit them to some of the armored Land Rover Defenders that Shorts made
They also make an intersting fuel operated cell that generates electrical power

Reminder to wife:to retain above-mentioned smugness in front of the neighbours, remind wife to keep the diesel at a level where the FBH will fire up....unlike this morning (-2c).....press remote, then 20 minutes later go out to find iced-up car due to only 50 miles of range showing "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to speak out and remove all doubt" ?.....what rubbish...
