You get from a half-defrosted bonnet.....which only means one thing....you own a Discovery 8)
The second warm glow comes from trying (but failing) not to look smug and superior when your neighbour is out with the scraper

Just out of interest how much does it take out of the battery? I'm thinking of those of us who do not do long journeys and perhaps with the added useage would not recuperate the charge.

I've been tempted to install a D3 silencer to the intake but as the howl scares the crap out of the local cats I have come to appreciate it.

I read on here once before (not sure how true it is) that the fbh running for 30 mins before starting the engine uses less fuel and battery than starting a cold engine....26 and on the 4th LR..

There certainly is an argument that part or perhaps all the fuel used by the FBH pre-start is compensated by the reduced fuel burn on the journey; but this would be conditions and journey length dependant. Indeed this can be the case. Fortunately it checks the battery voltage before starting remotely or with the timer.
My commute only takes 20 mins each way. If I use the remote climate every morning (and of course the fact that you are using the remote climate inevitability means that you also have the lights on, wipers on, heated seats on, heated screens on) by the fifth morning it usually doesn't fire up remotely due to low voltage. The car always starts and of course if there is a longer run done in between then no problem.
My short commute is the main reason I invested in a CTEK charger, invaluable over the winter months.
Incidentally one of the biggest power drainers seems to be the front heated screen, 30 amp fuses for each side if I remember correctly. Using the IID tool to check battery voltage with engine running is interesting when you turn the front screen on. I always turn off the front screen as soon as I can.
