Glad I'm not the only poor b d to be dealing with rust. Many swear words were used for whatever numpty changed the arms last, obviously never hear of copper grease. This is the project V8 that passed an "MOT" 2 months ago, my bloody did it, probably not seen a real test in a few years....

T piece Finally gave up on me. Lucky as I use her for going up and down to our Caravan in North Devon. Noticed the coolant under the car at our local supermarket less than half a mile from home, had it given up on the motorway may have been a slightly different post. Gave me no warning just disintegrated.
Just concerned now what other plastics may be in the same condition

Todays job for the D4
Changed the right front hub on my D4 today, seems to be the original one from 2012 judging from the amount of force it took to remove it
Oddly there was no play in the hub but a constant wub wub wub as it was driven with only a really marginal difference between straight driving and turning left.
On inspection the original hub bearing was really gravelly in one position but the rest of the bearing rotation was fine
All done with the only hassle being the removal of the chewed up Torx screw from whoever had the front discs off before, ground the head off and everything else was plain sailing.
I was going to change the front discs and pads at the same time but there is so much life left in them I kept the new ones and will save that for another day. Must stop buying shiny toys....

Replaced the gearbox detent circlip,
Great guide found on here, £11 part the size of your thumb, and around 20 minutes work for an absolute transformation,
The lack of a sprung return made gear changes in/out of 5th and 6th feel like a bit of a gamble, watching the dash display was the only way to be sure you had it right, admittedly my circlip was broken up but I'm still really impressed with the difference its made.

Changed out the upper tailgate switch as the tailgate refused to open by hand although it opened happily using the fob button. Quite an easy job compared to some others.
Switch I used was https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/332268023977. I used just the switch with its two thin black wires and discarded the rest of the loom that was in the box. I managed to take the relevant connectors out of the 8 way connector under the upper tailgate trim and was a straight swap to insert the new switch connectors in (after a bit of fiddling to get the wires through a foamy bit.D1 300Tdi - gone

The old girl had her MOT today and passed with three advisories, two of which will be sorted in the service next week and the third is for the tiniest chip in the windscreen, less than 3mm and not in my line of sight. It's so small I hadn't even noticed it!
Not bad for 15 years old and 135000 miles. Cheers,
Jez
