S model 17" Rims on SE TDV6? |
|
Quick Q, can I put the S Model 17" Rims on my SE with 18" Rims on currently?
Looking at buying 17" rims to put Offroad tyres on for those Africa adventures

Disks are slightly bigger on the front of the petrol version, so the wheels bind on the calipers of the 17s. Bodsys Brake Bible

I've been wondering about fitting the bigger discs actually - anyone know if they'll just bolt on, or are the calipers different as well? IE - 05 D3 TDV6 HSE - Zambezi Silver
SA - 07 VW Golf TDI - White - Sold!

I'd have thought they'd be slightly different or at least the pads, otherwise you've still only got the same braking area...
We'll see what Wiggs finds out. Bodsys Brake Bible

Ahhhh yes, I was thinking applied braking area rather than cooling surface...
But would it really make that much difference to cooling...? Are they slightly thinner but greater diamater? so the thinner will make a difference?
Confused in Catalan..... Bodsys Brake Bible

nwoods wrote:I can't give any specifics because I did not perform the work, but the HSE's larger front disk brakes can be installed fairly easily with no modification required to a Base model Disco3.
The brake pads and calipers are the same, only the rotors are swapped out. The HSE's are atleast an 1" bigger in diameter. The rear brakes are the same.
I had it done to mine, and yes, there is a noticable improvement in stopping power.
I did not NEED to have this done, but the opportunity arose and so there we are.

Call me stoooopid, but which part exactly is the 'rotor' in a braking system.......
Other than that minor detail, I could do that as they'd fit my nice black 19s on with no problem (along with my existing silver 19s) Bodsys Brake Bible
