United Kingdom 2005 Discovery 3 4.4 V8 HSE Auto Cairns BlueDiscovery 3

I was speaking this week with someone working on the new Disco 5. I was told that the release date is 6th June 2016 and that the launch price is going to be a few hundred pounds cheaper than the D4 - reason being the chassis is shared with the FFRR.

That would go against the strategy so far where, despite shared chassis, the RRS, FFRR and DS have all bumped up the relative cost compared to their predecessor.

Maybe the cost to produce, tool up, design etc., is far far cheaper and they don't want to make the maximum possible profit out of it hence will sell it cheaper.... that'd be nice!! Very Happy

Only reason I can see for them to sell it cheaper would be if it is significantly different to the vehicle it replaces in terms of its position in the range or its build quality/features/practicality.

It may ultimately be a cheaper car to produce but I'd be very very surprised to see them pass that instantly on to their customers from day 1.

Absolutely. Despite the platform and running gear for the DS being essentially that of the FL2 and Evoque (and, slightly embarrassingly, the Ford Mondeo! Shocked ) the cost difference was shocking!

The entry level 4x4 FL2 was around £23,500, about 18 months before it finished production, it then rose fairly steeply to around £28,000, before being replaced with the DS at over £32,000! Shocked
 2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2
2015 - 2017: 2 x D4
2017 to date: FFRR SDV8
2023 to date: 2 x FL2 as “second” cars 🙄

A prime consideration for me when considering whether or not to stay with the Disco marque. Now on my fourth version. Very Happy

OK.... Embarassed Having looked in a bit more detail on the website I am looking at a black HSE with a few options - privacy glass, full roof rails, grab handles (so used to hauling myself in the Landcruiser) and a few other bits - bordering on getting close to the Luxury HSE - I'm already up to £56K plus. How much should I expect to get off the list price does anyone know - when I spoke to the dealer today he said he could certainly do something price wise with the Discovery but not the Discovery Sport.

Any must have options?

Should I get the underneath 'sealed/waxed' - live near the coast......?

Thanks fellas/ladies...... Smile

Wouldn't A pillar grab handles screw up airbag deployment?

Ordered mine from Matthew at Carrs a few weeks ago, he gave me by far the best trade in / price combination of the half a dozen dealers that I tried. They also lent me a demo for an unaccompanied test drive for 1/2 a day (giving me the opportunity to take Mrs RM and daughter out to Roskillys in it for the afternoon - which did the trick! Wink Whistle Very Happy )

since people rarely buy a car for life, why not get a D4 now (second-hand, perhaps, so not the instant depreciation) and then either keep it or trade it in the future for the as-yet-unknown quantity that is the D5?

that way you experience the Land Rover approach (with its positives and negatives) and can make a much more informed decision when the time comes?

Red Merie - being a fellow Cornish resident - are you going to have yours undersealed - got a bit of a hang up about it after Mr T reported 'underbody' corrosion on my Land Cruiser - I always made sure I hosed the underneath off on the occasional time the roads were salted - maybe I'm getting a bit OCD about this....

Any options you have gone for? - I should consider?
