Hi chaps,
Monty went in today due to a front end knocking.
Whilst my dealer is very good, they are only a small country dealership and this is the first time they have come across this issue. Their initial thoughts were diff, and I told them about the problems reported here.
They want to cover themselves with LRA before they start ordering parts. They have asked if I can give them contact details for other dealers who have had experience with this issue and that they can call to discuss what the known issues are.
Is anyone able to give me names and contact numbers for the relevant service managers at the dealers they have used to solve these isues? I would really appreciate any assistance as it will help save me time without my beloved Monty (and ensure that all is good for an Aust day long weekend driving the dunes at Robe, SA).
If you dont want to name the dealer here, please feel free to PM me the contact details.
thanks in advance,[/u] Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent.

The ARB bushes and stirrups are pretty cheap and would be the first place to look. Had mine done (as have others) because of knocking at the rear and the front also.
Yours chaps could ask for Mike (Service Manager) at Shukers in Ludlow, Shropshire, UK on +44 1584 877231

Try Trent at Alto LR service in Sydney
There should a a TSB for the knock in the steering.
TSB LA211-002
Subject/Concern: Discovery 3/LR3 - Minor Steering Column Knock
Models:
Discovery 3 / LR3 Vin range: 5A300545-5A349378
Markets: All
Summary:
A customer may report a concern of a minor knocking noise from the front end of the vehicle (steering) when driving over small bumps or undulating/rough road surfaces.
Cause: Dynamic movement in the lower steering shaft sliding joint due to low sliding loads.
Action: Should a customer express concern regarding the above, refer to the Service Procedure detailed in this bulletin to determine the source of the noise/excess movement.
Yours would be outside this vin no probably though.
Ball joint and sway bar bushes have been known issues though.
If steering related ball joints are more likely. “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€
