Good news, you can change the seals without removing the trims from the doors, I was being a wuss and not trying hard enough before. What you need to do is peel the outer part of the seal away from the trim to disengage the barb shown in the following picture
While you have the barbed side pulled outwards use your other hand to pull the seal downwards, once you have a few inches disengaged I found it would let you slide the remaining part backwards out of the trim.
New trim on rear door old trim still on the front door, the new trim is a very tight fit and I found a bit of liquid soap helped, it would also be slightly easier if you swapped the seals before you fit the tree sliders.
Now for the other side
1997 Defender 90 for the kids and I to have a go at some competitive off road RTV and Tyro trials, daughter picked up her first trophy over the August Bank Holiday.
