Re: % Drivers who go off-road

Just to be controversial - frankly I can't understand why anyone would want to buy a 4WD if they are not planning to drive off road. There are plenty of vehicles that are nicer to drive on-road.
Cheers.
Flooded roads are increasingly common in the UK. I've been very lucky on a couple of occasions when driving "low" cars not to have been stranded. I certainly feel more secure in my D3.
I do go off-road (mildy) most weeks, but I've also done 30k miles on the road since April 06 & I was very surprised to find that the D3 is actually a great road car.
I do take your point though, especially when I see blinged up 4x4's with wafer thin rubber on huge alloys driving around towns.
But each to their own, & I'll vigorously defend anyones right to drive what they want to, not what other people think they should drive.

We also have a phenomenon in SA which I will politely call an indigenous taxi. These taxis have no respect for the rules of the road or other road users. But they themselves when I bear down on them with a LR of any form
I have also already tagged a few with both the defender and the rangie but will wait to blood the D3 until I get a bull bar

we need a definition of what 'off road' means in this context I think... nothing yet.
Can't believe that 7.4% of X3 drivers go offroad, that must include the pub gravel carpark or their drive.
I'm clearly in the minority then, I take our X3 off road quite a bit on the cross country pipelines I design & build. Ok it's not rock crawling but it's still slippery mud conditions (especially of late with the rain we've experienced on our scheme in herefordshire)
Handles the mud, slime & water OK so far, even if my work colleagues do think I'm a bit nuts for taking it up to its hubs in the slippery stuff Wife's never too happy though when it comes back again with the footwells full of mud

MikeS, wasn't saying that no X3 drivers take their car offroad. I'm sure there are some (like you) but not that many.
