He's on holiday - oops.
Carl says he will be extending the bars by about 30-35mm and have a set ready to try in about a week and a half. He will ring me when they are ready to try. There are two rules for success,

I'd like to see the finished product before taking a leap, my early huncle Ray ones are very strong with 5 braceing pieces but only 85mil out, ld like them better double that. As l said the ones love got have taken a lot of hammer on rough lanes and saved the D3 cills from much bashing. Mantec sump guard.

Might now be in for a set of 2 of these, providing the new design is good enough My D3 Build Thread
The bars are now about level with the edge of the wheels as you look along the side of the car. Hanging a plumb-line down, they extend 1 or 2mm further than the widest point of the door. Carl is going to extend them another 5-10mm.
I also said that they do not extend far enough forward, so he will also extend the bars 50mm forwards and backwards, which will bring the leading edge of the front weld to approximately below the gap at the front of the door. He didn't seem keen on extending any further, as this would mean that the trim at the bottom of the wing would need to be trimmed. There are two rules for success,

Excellent news. Put me down for 2 sets of the Mk3's
EDIT: If I was being really fussy, I'd extend the bars rearwards a bit more too My D3 Build Thread

One thing I forgot to mention was that the gap is still there below the door lip. Having seen some other sliders, this is pretty common, and there are comments to this effect earlier in this thread or the other one.
With this in mind, I don't think it's a serious problem. I am 88% certain that I will be buying a Mk3 set myself, and I have sourced some 10mm thick x 20mm wide black nylon strips which I will apply to close the gap.
I will also get some 1mm thick neoprene sheet to fit between the slider and the bodywork to protect the paintwork I think. There are two rules for success,

Sold my side steps so I'm up for a pair please.
If there is a gap like there is on defender ones, I will seal with PU sealer as I did with my defender.
Not keen on rubber or other seals that may just hold water and crap against the body.
