Of course, it's always possible the pad wear indicator has simply come loose and been damaged. First time I did my own pads I found the rear sensor was just hanging loose and the front one had a crack in the plastic. Worth checking first. They're on the front left and rear right calipers.  Went for a job as a human cannonball. Not the right calibre.
