Mind you, you can use a Land Rovers capabilities to the full by towing, getting through the snow and packing full the vehicle without ever going 'technically' off road..

To be frank, here in JHB we are offroad a lot more than you may think. Some of our roads (like the one past Leeuwkop) are so badly potholed I can only drive them in the D3

Reminds me of the LR radio ad a few years ago where the guy phones the transport department and thanks them for the job they doing with maintaining the roads because he drives a LR and now gets to spend more time using it offroad on public roads

Just to be controversial - frankly I can't understand why anyone would want to buy a 4WD if they are not planning to drive off road. There are plenty of vehicles that are nicer to drive on-road.

Status, prestige, practicality for kids & kit etc in a 'car' the size of an african village..
Can fully understand why they do, (and I do that as well) but I do go off road in mine, whilst one of my neighbours doesn't.

Carrying capacity. My folks D3 regularly carries 6 people plug bagage for week or two on holiday. I often carry bulky items that would not fit in an ordinary estate car so would have to hire a van.
