Is the belt a genuine one? Im not saying you must have genuine, just grabbing at straws.

Gates one from an auto factor. The one I took off was a dayco one I think.

I wonder if it's a seized/partially seized/rusty ball joint, if it's ONLY when turning the steering wheel, or large movements of the suspension Exclamation

How long was the car sat around for before the engine was swapped over?

Was sat up for a while jacked up with the front wheels in the air.

Good couple of months I'd say.

It does only happen as soon as you turn the steering wheel. The noise sounds like it's coming from the front of the engine tho ?

Unless if something is seized like the ball joint , the engine is working harder to turn the pulley on the steering pump to enable the wheel to turn causing the belt to slip slightly ?? Or am I looking into it to deep ??

I dont suppose you checked it against the old one before fitting?

Does the belt feel nice and tight ie springy when you push against it, doing this also should move the tensioner.

Yes mate I checked it if anything the new one was 2mm smaller. Yes it's tight mate. All seems good. That's why me and now quite a few others are confused ?!

The noise may be echoing underneath the car, making it appear as though it's from the engine

Doesn't take long to access the ball joints and check them Thumbs Up

Mine is squeking even if I don´t start the engine before turning the wheels or bouncing it up and down on the bumper so engine related noise seems unlikely in my case. Disco_Mikey ( Bow down ), do you mean the balljoints on the upper and lower arms? I suspect my problem originates from the front upper arm balljoints as lower arms are changed not long ago and I can´t really see anything else that moves when turning the wheels. As my car is at 150.000 miles I have desided to change all remaining arms, front and rear and also all the struts. Lee, do you get the squeks without starting the engine as well?

No mate. , mines on 120k , only squeaks when I turn the steering wheel. It's a really strange noise.

The missus is off work tomorrow so I'll video it while she turns the wheel and upload it via you tube. Might help out a bit.

Suppose we should also ask if it squeaks when you turn the steering with the engine off Whistle

Picking up on this now old thread but wanted to post as I have recently had a similar issue.

Replaced the belts and two tensioners with INA products and whilst the tensioners are nice and quiet, I was getting a tapping/light squeal noise from the belt area when turning the wheel left to right. Power steering is all fine.

I've now replaced the belt with a genuine LR one and the noise has gone.

The genuine belt has a slight texture to the back of it which the one in my INA kit doesn't. So either this difference or the INA kit belt was fractionally too small, causing unnecessary strain on the pulleys and thus the noise.
