Front wheel hub replacement.

My front passenger wheel bearing is gone, having 22" wheels i suppose hasn't helped. There was a droning noise for the last 2 days , so it got worse last night, with a clunking noise. Made it home from work and into the garage. I took off the wheel and holding the disc the hub has a good rattle in it. I have no problem getting the hub. Can i fit the new one easy or is it hard to do. I'm a bit mechanically minded so was thinking of giving it a go. Any step by step details and tips would be great thanks.

It's straightforward. The hub nut takes a bit of undoing - you need a decent length bar.

Mine had to be bashed off with a lump hammer. I did the pair as I figured they had covered the same mileage.

There are some guides on here. Don't scrimp on cheap bearings.

So gave my mechanic a ring today and told him the situation. I know him well so he tells it as it is and is very particular in his work. He said i could try it but could run into some bolt issues or the hub seized on. As i had brake down cover he advised me to get it brought to his garage and he would fix it, so i did. He was amazed it hadn't fallen off. My wife drove it 80 miles yesterday to work and back, thank god. He's going to fix it tomorrow along with a service, fitting the 3 engine belts in a few weeks , 150,000km on the clock.

Took me about 4 hours with a very large sledge hammer to get job done for each side as bolts also are a problem as rust over the years of exposure to water and crud.same time for the other side too but just a diy so no labour costs

Well got my hub sorted, mechanic said i was lucky it it didn't cause more damage. The hub was seized on and he had to heat it to get it off. He put on the best quality one he could get, there was cheaper ones but he said there were a waste of time. Anyway cost me €250 around £200 parts and labour, thought it was a good price, lovely steering now.

They are easy enough to change DIY, took me about 3hrs to do my first one, done about 6-7 now over the years and can have it done in 45mins from jacking up to lowering the jack Thumbs Up
It's one of those 'easy when you know how' jobs TBH Laughing

That's not a bad price to be fair..
I got my indie to change my off side bearing and change brake pads on both sides..
I sourced the parts from (Af) and was charged £90 Labour..
