For the sake of a few quid, a few tubes of Doctor Tranny is worth a try, even if it only delays the inevitable a few months.
Mine's on the way out, put 2 tubes in and it's been fine for a month. it may not last too much longer but there are posts of it working for a year before proper remedial action needs taking.
hi there,i have a 2008 disco 3 auto thats developed a judder/vibration when under load, it only does it between 1400rpm and 2000rpm.
What mileage has yours done?
And do I assume that the T/C issues affect the 6-speed auto in the D4?Front Runner Rack, OEM Ladder & RAI, Tuff-Trek Foxwing, B'rakhah Ingonyama Expedition Trailer, RLD's Spare Wheel Protector, Bodsy's Bars, Empty Pockets! Member of Gloucestershire & Worcestershire 4x4 Response.

There are no real issues with the ZF torque converter at all - it is a good unit.
It just needs servicing in accordance with the manufacturer's schedule.

Can someone help define 'judder'
Mine occasionally feels like it is in gear too high and I get a transmission/driveline noise...not driveline shunt but that sort of noise.
Again kick down a gear and it is fine.
Wouldn't call it a judder though....

ZF give 75k as an absolute maximum; they actually give a range of 50 to 75k, with as low as 30k for 'severe duty'. Given that the average D3 gets out of bed weighing close to 3 tonnes and push around a 4-wheel drive system I suggest that D3s & D4s aim at the lower end of the milage range and leave the 75k for the likes of BMW.

Mine's in the dealers today having new lower arms, etc. fitted so I've asked them to check it and the fluids levels.
She's covered just shy of 97k, 45k of which I've done, and I have no records in my invoices of the transmission fluid being checked/replaced.
It's also MOT time, so wish me luck!!!! Front Runner Rack, OEM Ladder & RAI, Tuff-Trek Foxwing, B'rakhah Ingonyama Expedition Trailer, RLD's Spare Wheel Protector, Bodsy's Bars, Empty Pockets! Member of Gloucestershire & Worcestershire 4x4 Response.

Mine had her g/box oil double flushed at 85k and needed a new TC at 140k. No towing whatsoever.
My D3 had its oil changed at 60k.
My D4 had its first change at 36k.

@ alfamale: Just keep repeating to yourself "it's only money".
@Rob: Unfortunately back when mine was that age it was way before this problem was appreciated. We were naive and thought LR knew what they were doing.
