A few months on, a couple of photos to show progress on my G4 project. I'm trying to restore it back to 'original'.
Now that I've had the G4 Challenge decals restored, I've also had the HSE alloys returned back to their original silver colour (previous owner turned them black). I think this improves the overall look/feel of the car as well as restoring its originality. I've had the winch tray resprayed as it was looking a bit corroded.
Still to come:
- I've removed the front G4 Challenge plaque to give it a good polish and brighten up.
- Getting the plastic light cowl repaired (plastic has cracked and rack supplier no longer exists!).
- New Torque Converter being done by Disco Mikey
- Need to replace the drivers door actuator (intermittently refusing to lock/unlock)
- Need to replace Rear diff motor
- Having some battery/alternator/glowplug issues which I need to resolve. Started a new thread here for that.

Here's the cracked G4 rack cowl... what a mess!
Apparently quite common on the G4s as cutting holes out for the lights and mounting a bracket in the centre for the plaque seems to weaken the plastic so it cracks.
Going to get the cracked plastic in the middle cut out and replaced with aluminium then rebuild the plinth to restore my G4 plaque on to 2007 Porsche Boxster (987) 2.7

And finally... The G4 Owners Club sent me a collection of photos from the Belgium Trials where my vehicle was used in 2008. Cool photo of mine back in its glory days for anyone who's interested

Chris - I'm totally humbled by how much you've done in such a short time...! Well done.
Interesting to see the window tints and that you've changed the alloys back to silver. I recently got some black ones with winter tyres so I can swap them over but haven't got around to it yet.
Over the summer I fitted towing electrics, a T-max split charge system and have swapped all the internal bulbs for LEDs. Oh - and Disco Mikey fitted a new Intercooler, blanked the EGR valves, new timing belt tensioner and re-mapped her. Cracking job he did too
I do like the window tints on yours, but am currently thinking of getting the underbody rustproofed - there's a place in Johnstone that comes well recommended. Just need to spread out the more-expensive items a little!
I was lucky enough to get a site visit to Loch Eck yesterday (near Dunoon) and while I didn't get any pics on the G4 I did take this...
The journey back gave me the opportunity to try out the rooflight xenons properly and they were really really good. However, they lit up every snowflake and made the visibility quite surreal at times. I'all download a clip from the dashcam.1981 Unimog U1300L (ex German Army vehicle

Good to hear from you Dan, one of just three or four Scottish G4 D3 owners! Yeah I've heard great things about Mikey, I'm hoping this TC job will fall under my Warranty Direct cover as I believe it's a £1k+ job.
Do you have a link to where you got your LED bulbs? I'd like to do that to mine but haven't even begun to start researching that.
Excuse my ignorance.. What does a split charge system do?
The xenons on the roof are incredible aren't they, although it's a bit disconcerting to have the whole bonnet illuminated bright orange when you're driving through the night!
Do share some photos of yours to compare! 2007 Porsche Boxster (987) 2.7

The split charge system allowed me to install a second battery & fit additional sockets which won't drain the main battery....

Update: 1 year on
Hi All,
This weekend marked one year since I bought my first and long awaited Discovery 3. As you'll see from the thread I've done a bit of work to it with the intention of returning it to exactly how it looked when it was used in the G4 Challenge.
Since I last provided an update, here's what I've been up to:
1. New torque converter courtesy of Mikey at MMP (it transformed the way it drives, feels like a brand new car)
2. Replaced the rear differential to get rid of the transmission fault caused by a temperamental diff motor
3. Removed the standard 08MY dash trim and replaced with the later style piano black trim (added a touch of class to the cabin I feel)
4. Spent nearly £200 on bulbs... Took the car apart and replaced and upgraded every single bulb including the HID xenons. All are now high performance bulbs and LED where applicable.
5. Fitted a pair of genuine D3 driving lamps to fill the void in the A-bar. Had them wired to the full beam.
6. Repaired the cracked expedition rack around the roof lights (pictured earlier) with a new aluminium cowling powercoated black to match the rack. Reinstated the brackets and G4 Challenge plaque
7. Replaced the battery and alternator to appease any cold start and charging issues
8. Tested the glow plugs - all but one are working
9. Sourced and fitted the final G4 Challenge decals, namely the Red Cross front and rear banners and the missing sponsorship logos.
At this point, one year on, I would say that I've finally completed everything I wanted to do to it. It's back to how it looked when it rolled out of Solihill in May 2008 and headed across to Belgium to start its short life in the competition.
Here are some photos I took at the weekend after a deep clean to celebrate the completion of the project!
And here's a 'before & after' to show what's changed in the year (the top was taken the day I first went to 'view' it for sale):
