Alarm Problems

My alarm keeps sounding randomly for no reason. Keeps doing it when parked at work but not it seems at night as we don't hear it nor do the neighbours. I know it is not the loudest alarm but peeps would soon complain around here!

It sounded when my wife slammed the tailgate shut on her car next to it this morning but I could not then replicate it. It sounded today at work as I walked towards it with the key fob in my hand??

I have shorted out the bonnet catch to eliminate that but it has made no difference. I have tried double pressing the fob to switch off the interior sensors but it still sounds. Once the alarm sounds once it will keep doing it every 15 minutes or so, I switch it off using the fob and after relocking the car it will start all over again within 15mins. I have tried unlocking the car using the fob once (drivers door only unlocked) leaving it unlocked and after 15 to 20 minutes the alarm will sound again. Does it rearm on its own?? If I unlock all the doors and leave the car unlocked it is OK. Also if I start the car and move it that also seems to stop the alarm sounding for the rest of the day??

How can you ensure that double pressing the fob to lock the car actually switches off the interior alarm?

Are the internal sensors the little grills on the interior light housing by the rear view mirror, is it worth taping these over to eliminate something in the car?

Any other ideas?

This problem seemed to start when I fitted the Severn Bridge TAG sensor by the rear view mirror, might be just coincidence as this is a totally passive device as far as I am aware.

Any help would be appreciated.

The most common cause of random alarm activation seems to be the bonnet switch. Try bridging the contacts to see if the problem goes away and then replace or repair if it does.

Leave a window down, and after a few minutes put your arm in the window, alarm should sound.

Remove the bridge TAG thing and see if it makes a difference.
