If she'd been on a bend at the time as opposed to a straight it could have been nasty.... there is probably enough residual vacuum in the brakes to bring you to a halt safely with servo assistance, but you lose PAS pretty much instantly when the engine cuts, and - as I was reminded yesterday - trying to steer a 2.5tonne car without assistance is not easy. 
DSA investigated my failure. When mine went I lost steering and ended up in a ditch, the steering lock engaged whilst i was still rolling  MY06 S - Gone but not forgotten

Might be the flywheel position sensor !!! our car was just recalled a few weeks ago for this problem.. 2012 Discovery 4 HSE Luxury fitted with optional Side Steps.
