Only thing i'd add is protection once you have clayed the paint. Not necessary all the time but the addition of a wax or sealant on a D3, especially if used offroad is advisable.
To prep the paint after claying, Autoglym SRP (red polish) is ideal to remove any stubborn bits. Use a damp microfibre cloth/applicator avoiding panel edges (avoids leaving the white residue) Remember this is a polish and offers no protection when used on it's own.
Wax and Sealants have similar qualities, but are very different. Both offer good paint protection and will produce superb beading.
Sealants generally do not have any cleaning agents or wax and are more durable than wax. Probably the best on the market at the moment is Jetseal 109

Two coats of this will provide winter protection and give added protection when offroading. nothing will adhere to the paint surface, but will simply sit on the sealant waiting to be jetwashed off. Simple.
A wax finish will give a high gloss wet look finish to your D3, especially if used on darker colours A good all round wax that will last for a few months is P21S. Inexpensive and a tub should last a couple of years, obvioulsy depending on how often you use it. Some members on here, it would last a lifetime before being removed from the delivery wrapper
http://www.vertar.com/p21s/p21s-concours-carnauba-wax/
For an outstanding finish Swissvax do a range of waxs that give the finish a WOW factor, but do not come cheap.
I carry Swissvax Best of Show and Mystery for the best finish possible.
http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/swissvax/swissvax-wax/cat_36.html
Zymol are also outstanding waxes, but pound for pound I think Swissvax are the dogs danglies.
For the best of both worlds, with a bit of compromise on sealant and wax finish Collonite cannot be beaten. This stuff once applied properly lasts for months and months.....a true waxing anomoly and cheap into the bargain.

Also a little tip. Use the wax to condition your door seals to prevent temperature damage in winter and treat you plastics such as door mirror casing and door trims. Easier than trim spray or gel and will provide UV protection preventing fading and can be layered each time you wax the D3.
What I generally do when doing a detail, depending on what the customer requires, is Clay, SRP, Glaze, two coats of sealant and then a thin coat of high carnauba wax (>45%) to bring it all to life. Or simply clay, SRP and wax.
I hope that is of some use to someone.
Oh well , now you have realy confused me
I thought i was quite clued up on this subject
Any way JKP which one would you advise for good beading.I have tryed Wolfgang deep gloss, Zaino Z2 , Natty's paste wax (blue) and Megs gold class wax ( not at the same time ).
I have never had any thing like the video you linked to ..
So any suggestions as to what i need to get ( to add to my private detailing store ) that will give me good beading ..without paying £7000 a tub
Thanks G4 Gone ...but not forgotten

Hi Wiggs,
I'm kinda biased towards swissvax as I think it's the gods danglies. Swissvax teflon is next on my shopping list as I want to test the claims about 'nothing' sticking like a non-stick frying pan.
For a wet deep gloss and durable finish Swissvax best of Show is hard to beat.
For durability, looks and beading then you cannot beat two coats of sealant topped with a carnauba wax, then 24hrs later apply another coat of wax. That'll be you sorted for months
Zaino is very good, Nattys red ( ) is the one to have in that range. Megs is okay as a light scratch filling wax, but my experience is that it ain't that durable.
Get some jetseal 109, and you cannot go wrong.

Not a detailing post, but are there any good ideas for getting rid of the smell of cigarettes. Our D3, which we got 2 weeks ago still has a smell of stale cigarette smoke in it from the previous owner. I have tried Febreeze etc, but it is still there.
If I can't get rid of it, I will have to complain to the dealer about it as they should have de odourised it.

Damnit! I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

Sorry!
, I think I would have kept quiet.
Mind you I have had a worse experience and I will probably regret telling the story but..........
My parents had a toilet macerator for the upstairs ensuite and it stopped working. I said I would have a quick look to see if it was a simply problem. I disconnected the waste outlet and the ventilation outlet and had a quick look at the electrical connections. All seemed ok, so I turned the pump manually using a nut on the housing and it seemed to free up nicely.
Anyway connected it all back up and flushed the toilet.
2 seconds later, I get a full face of cold water and other stuff shooting out the macerator into my face at 100psi. Fortunately the cold water made me close my mouth automatically.
Moral of the story, don't mix up the connections for the ventilator and the waste outlet
