TFC sorted me out 8) Again...
Gareth was right - it was the gearbox selection that was wrong, causing the park brake fault. Nothing to do with me changing the pads..... Disco 5 HSE Lux

Think it's a manual thing, but not 100% sure.
I was getting the gear indicator number come up, but it would only appear 3 or 4 seconds after selecting the gear, rather than instantly. It also causes the amber parkbrake warning to show (because the parkbrake isn't sure if you are in gear or not).
You find a longish bit of road, select low gear, then reverse up until the 'R' shows up. Then select 1st and drive until '1' comes up, 2nd until '2' comes up, all the way up to 6th and '6' appears.. Then lock the car up and wait for the red parkbrake light to go out. Then it'll work fine again!
It might work in high range, but you need a really long bit of clear road for that Disco 5 HSE Lux

Spent this morning trying it in high on the way to work (forgetting the 'reverse' bit too), as TFC has told me about this in the past
He reminded me this afternoon Disco 5 HSE Lux

Can someone confirm whether the pad wear sensor has to be replaced if the warning light had come on? I did my front pads before any light came on and had no issues, but waited till the lamp came on before doing the rears and can't get the warning light to reset...

If the light comes on it means that the circuit has been broken so you will need new sensor.
There are 2 sensors one on the front NS and one on the rear OS. The sensors clip into a slot in the pads. In the sensor there is a nipple and in the nipple there is a wire that is part of the warning circuit. Basically as the brake pads wear the tip of the nipple comes into contact with the disc, the tip then wears away eventually exposing the wire and as the wire wears away the circuit is broken.
There is a cheat if you don't want to buy a new sensor.. Simply join the 2 wires thus completing the circuit but I didn't tell you this.
Oh BTW make sure you put the rear pads in the correct way round, the chamfer should be at the bottom In the Beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

My pads warning light has NOT come on at all, but when recently having new tyres fitted, I had the chance to take a good look &, after 27k mls, there's not much of 'em left! So... I'm about to have my pads replaced all round (by an independent, not a L-R stealer), and have 2 questions:
1. Do the sensors still have to be replaced when, like mine, the warning light has NOT come on?
2. Does a replacement sensor wire come supplied with each set of L-R genuine pads (i.e. one for the front & one for the back set), or do they have to be separately ordered?
If anyone knows the answer to these 2, I'd appreciate it DGRR

1. No, if the sensor hasn't activated its reusable, just keep an eye on the spring on the end when you remove it.
2. Don't think so, I bought mine ridiculously cheaply off ebay! Genuine parts too! D3 TDV6SE
