Being 6ft7" tall, it seems that the D5 may not be an option for me. Not that I'm particularly inspired by it anyway. It would be a compromise over the D4.

Shame, as I'm really comfortable in the D3/4 and regularly drive for long distances without needing to stop to stretch my legs.

I'm going to see it on Wednesday evening, on early shifts this week so I won't be spending a lot of time with it just enough to make my mind up.

I'm just over 6' and I sat in front passenger and driver's seat in the version at Solihull last month. I found it perfectly adequate. Thumbs Up

The leg room in the second and third row doesn't bother me at all since I don't intend to drive the car from back there. Anyone sitting in those seats will be at my invitation and if they don't like it, they can always walk. Laughing

yes even I can drive it at 6"6" but would be truly interesting to know the exterior and interior dimensions of D3/4 vs D5 as I suspect they have done some reverse engineering here in a very BAD way Bow down Bow down Bow down Bow down

If you don't fit you don't fit.....
Not taste
Not a point view
A fact as opposed to opinions (which vary).

The D3/D4 was a benchmark concept, brilliant design, very well manufactured, in D3 days very well priced.....a winning formula
The following on here proves that...

The Discovery name lives on but on a compromised concept, with some really poor design choices.....my opinion but these concurr with lots of other opinions.....
Effectively the first MPV the J/LR have made.

But what of the NEW model for 2017....
SUV that's between the Evoke & the RRS......I wasn't told the badge if will wear....to me he same size as an F-Pace

Some Facts

In the UK, the Discovery 5 will be sold as a seven-seat model only. Its boot capacity with the third row in place is 258 litres, but with only two rows in place there’s a useful 1,137 litres of storage. Folding down the third, fourth and fifth seats increases the Discovery’s load bay to an impressive 2,406 litres.

Disco 4
Loadspace volume behind: - litres (cu. feet)
1st row 2,558 (90.3) 7 seat (2,476 (87.4) 5 seat)
2nd row 1,192 (42.1) 7 seat (1,260 (44.5) 5 seat)
3rd row 280 (9.9) 7 seat

Indeed much LONGER car with MUCH less SPACE, what are they smoking at LR ??? this is a DISASTER

Saw one in the flesh tonight at Guy Salmon. Overall an underwhelming experience.

2nd row of seats are set so low my knees where up round my ears when sat in them and as a result no support under your legs.

Also you will need to make sure your three adult passengers get along because there going to be in each other laps when all are three sitting in 2nd row together.

Drivers seat was ok although a left hand drive so need to sit in right hand drive.

Going to another one in couple of weeks so will see if it seems any better 2nd time around.

Need a test drive before any final decision can be made and over a weekend to try out with family.

As has been said before it will no doubt sell loads, particularly to first time LR buyers who have not had the experience of ownership of D3's and D4's before.

Luckily as I have nearly 2.5 years left on current PCP contract I dont need to rush into making any decision any time soon.

I apologise up front to those who are marketing people....but
If there were any model concept clinics some years back.....showing this vehicle as we are being shown right now......would we have got the D5 as it is ? Possibly not.....

I do & many others don't need or for that matter want a marketing someone to tell me what I actually need....strange as it may seem I can work that out for myself. Moving on from a D2 the Disco 3 was a simply breathtaking vehicle.....to me it still is & because there is a new vehicle named a Discovery doesn't diminish or alter the real thing......the D3 / 4 will to me stand as a design icon.
Calling this vehicle the Discovery is to me a travesty as LR are capitalising on a models name......Much the same a Freelander Replacement.... a Disco Sport.....I know it's only a name but.

The whole point about a brand having a range of vehicles is model diversity or differentiation....models to suit all needs & tastes....the range is now bunched up at the top end. That's the whole point of a range

Landrover created the SUV leaders.... others merely followed. LR brand Leaders

These are in essence practical family/working/utility (the "U" in SUV) vehicles....first......style icons second.....bit like Hunter wellies, Belstaff & Barbour jackets, Burberry, Range Rover.... Discovery....practical things not intended to be stylish "fashion items" .....but because they are practical, usable, functional.....GOOD.....the market takes them on......will this happen to the D5 ????

Different yes.....an advancement maybe not......style debatable .....missing specific items like 2nd row seat comfort (I'm 5'11") god help taller passengers relegated to these seats.
The point has been missed that it's critical to have 5 really 1st & 2nd row seats....seats 6 & 7 are complimentary...the D5 has lost the plot in sacrificing 2nd row rear seat room / comfort for the MPV concept. Abissmal.

The LR marketing people must be on mega bucks.....but the results if judging by the D5 are they simply aren't capable. Said it before .... smart companies take the existing customers with them.

What marketing say and what finance do are two totally different things. Then add into this the polotics and wims of the leadership and you end up with a D5.

I'm a marketeer and I left the coprprate world becuase the leadership team alwyas defaulted to what they knew or thought rather than the reality of the market.

If sales are the only measure of success then we'll have to wait a few years to see if the D5 is any good. The mistake is thinking sales are the only measure of success. What's just happened to this brand is very sad long term.

Either way if we like it or we hate it we are stuck with it as there will not be any major change to the model for several years yet due to the costs already incurred getting this model out and the costs it would take to re-do it all again.

If anyone is going to see it in the next couple of days, please could they measure the distance from the seat base to the floor(footwell). I forgot when I saw it, and have just been through all the LR stuff and can't find the measurements. I'm going to measure my D4 tomorrow and would like a comparison. Thxs in advance if anyone remembers

The other measurement that's nobody yet knows is, with the suspension as low as it will go, the distance from the top edge of the fully lowered electric plank / dachshund drawbridge, to the ground beneath (the "dog jump" height).

It's currently 19 1/2" on the D4, if that were significantly lower, it would be a huge +ve for the car.
