If you going for the 2lt D5, would you not be better going for the 2lt DS?

As long as there aren't any hills, no one's in a hurry and the going is tarmac, I can't see it being too much of an issue 2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2

Just don't fancy a 2lt pulling a large car and caravan about if I did I would have an XC90 sat on the drive now instead. MY17 D5 1st Edition Namib Orange

It will pull 3.5 tonnes quite happily because it has 240bhp. It won't be as easy as the TDV6 and you'll need a few more revs than on a proper engine with 8 cylinders but it will be fine.
And before anyone goes on about torque, it's not torque that does the work, it's power. You can have huge torque with no motion which means no work done i.e. no power. Work done i.e. moving a given mass by a given distance in a given time, is power.
I can generate over 100lbft of torque on a pushbike but I'll be slower than a slow thing because the power will be rubbish. Visiting from rrsport.co.uk

The new engine output is pretty much the as my current 3.0l so I am expecting it to drag my diggers and dumpers with ease?!
I went to Tonbridge (now called Lancaster) and found Daryl to be very helpful ( mind you he would be looking at the cost of these things)!

Means nothing on paper , I can plug my 9v pump to an 18v battery and it will run like a good un but not happily or for as long .
However I digress and hope you have good motoring and I can afford one if all the D4s dont become available

When at the launch a LR spokesman confirmed the 2.0 will pull 3.5 tons but his words were. it will be screaming a lot of the time and will have to be worked hard to maintain the performance of the 3.0lt, running it at higher revs all the time to get the same performance. This may not be a problem for someone who tows once in a while but for me or someone who tows regular or daily I can see this becoming tiresome and would also raise questions to the long term damage this may or may not cause to the engine. The analogy I use is when I was a kids my parents had a 1100 Escort for a 100 mile a day trip, this suffered lots of issues and premature engine failure with things like head gaskets and broken piston rings, they changed to a 3000 Capri and never had anymore issues with the engine despite keeping the Capri for a lot longer than the Escort, this was put down to the size of the engine and less strain/wear on the engine.
So for m towing a large caravan fairly regular it will be the 3.0 ltr all the way MY17 D5 1st Edition Namib Orange

Have to agree, the 2lt Ingenium engine is fine, but it doesn't come close to 3lt and I am only towing a trailer.

I appreciate the concerns but the proof is in the pudding ...which only a handful will have had experience of thus far tbh. I'm sure hatjoepeg can be our guinea pig 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

Could be a expensive Guinea Pig For L/R did they tow trailers laden up for thousands of miles on test probably not so as usual we will be the one's that make or break the 2ltr engine in towing ?.What will they be like after 50/60 k towing?..To me always like less stress full bigger engine.
