Fochabers Ice cream is a must!
Gordon Castle tea room. Yum.
Depending on how far you want to go:
Spey Bay a fantastic pebble beach.
Lossiemouth East Beach a good sandy beach and good walk.
Burghead west of Lossie, another good beach.
Duffus castle.
Spynie Palace, what a vaulted ceiling.
Scalan seminary in Braes of Glenlivet, special place.
Fyvie Castle worth a visit but more impressive us the stained glass window in Fyvie Church.
Dunnotter Castle ...amazing.

Indeed, it capitalised 'ken' so I had to do a quick edit. Is there a Scottish predictive? Stew,

Lovely part of the country, we're lucky to be an hour or so away and visit frequently with the tintent. Great beaches, scenery and villages to enjoy, in particular Sandend, Portsoy and Cullen are gorgeous. A great time of year too with the days getting longer but still quiet enough. I hope you enjoy your visit, the Macduff aquarium is well worth a visit and the Portsoy chip shop is one of the best

Thanks for all the suggestions - quick follow up:
We stayed here: http://sailmakerscottage.com/
Amazing place - really nice house and great views over the sea.
Places visited in no particular order:
Spey Bay (saw dolphins!)
Peterhead prison museum
Lighthouse museum
Fochaber Ice Cream shop
Cairngorm Funicular (lucky we still had snow at the top - mostly gone by the time we left)
Fort George
Mountain Hare trip (http://www.glenlivet-wildlife.co.uk/land_rover_safari.php)
Brewdog
I'm sure there are more but the shopping from the last item may be clouding my memory somewhat!
All in all, a great week and I'm very sad to be back in the south
