It sounds like youd be at Banff. That's a good 50 miles from Elgin. Another 15 miles on to Brodie. Another 35 to Fort George.
Not a lot to do this time of year. Elgin had changed over the years. There a big Asda going out the Rothes road and a Gordon and MacPhail shop just off the centre. They sell a good selection of Whiskey.
All that area has good distilleries, most won't be open until Easter.
Pray for good weather, it will make a difference between wanting to come back and never coming back.

If you like shortbread, Deans of Huntly have a cafe/shop next to the factory, even the air around there smells of shortbread
If you like beer, BrewDog's original brewery is in Ellon, and they do tours and tastings.
If you like soup, Baxters are based near Fochabers, although they don't do factory tours anymore, the history might interest a foodie.
And if you fancy being chased by a grumpy old git, I'll give you my parent's postcode and you can drive down their private lane and turn around outside their house - bonus feature of "see if you can get away faster than he can unlock the gun cabinet"

Great ideas if it were Summer, which I suspect is when people last visited, but I know the Dolphin place is shut until Easter, Macduff Marine is only open limited hours and days.
Anyway, the bottom line is check them yourself before travelling specifically to a venue.
