TDV6 or 4.4 V8 petrol for my next Disco?
As soon as I can i.e later on this year, I'm coming back to the Green Oval but with the current media demonisation of diesels, do I go for a 4.4 petrol or stick with a 2.7 V6 diesel??? due to poverty I have to buy an older D3 (pre 56 plate), I know I'll be getting fekal mpg from the petrol but I worry about the lunatics in power bringing in a £10 per day levy against diesels countrywide!!! I will greatly value your opinions on this subject unless you think the new Disco 5's a good looking vehicle then you're a

v8 has got to be crippling in mpg, I like it when my mate with a r/r 4.6 auto tries to tell me he can get 18mpg Im sure he can once in his lifetime maybe but in the real world of various road speeds/loads I bet hes not getting 10/12 mpg everyday.
I get a genuine 19/20mpg on my short daily commute in the tdv6 and will hit nearly 27/28 on a decent run.

I had a TDV6 and loved it, it broke my heart having to sell it (SWMBO's orders!!) I'm just worried about the government finding new ways to f*** us over
B16 KJR you're right about Specsavers but not about the D5 sorry mate.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder If we all liked the same things, the world would be a very boring place to live

MPG might not be great but total cost of ownership stands to be a little easier. No turbo, dpf, egr, cambelts, glowplugs, oil pump or crank shaft problems to worry about. So I guess it depends on how many miles you do.
I'm doing 25k a year in my V8 so have an lpg system which makes running lots less eye watering. Plus it sounds lovely

Thanks Bimblepish , you've just sold me on buying a V8 , all I have to do is convince SWIMBO about the advantages of Disco 3 ownership i.e. we can take the grandkids for long days out rather than having a nice pub lunch, go on shopping trips in comfort, visit the mother-in-law more often.......................... I've just unsold the idea of Disco 3 ownership
Only joking I'm still going to buy one asap!!!

V8's are like hens teeth in the UK as I understand - so good luck with your search

There's two that I quite like on auto trader, going for around the £8K mark, both have 100+K mileages but need to sort out my finances first plus take SWMBO on a holiday before I can get back to owning a Landy

Having had turbo, intercooler, egr, and glowplug issues on my D3 I'd buy a V8 any day!
