Do you use the EPB?
When I was test driving sports, a local independant recommended not using the EPB because they have a tendency to stick and are expensive to sort out - Is this correct? Ive always taken the view that you *should* use something if its liable to stick, to stop it sticking!2008 TDV8 Sport HSE

I've always used the EPB frequently. If I'm waiting at lights I'll normally put it in to neutral and apply the EPB. Coincidentally I've had 5 Disco's and never had any EPB issues. Use it or lose it!2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE

Agree, use it or lose it, same to be said of mirrors etc. I have always used mine and only one occurrence of screech when it needed adjusting and that was done under warranty as only 18 Months old

Yes - I use it all the time - there is no way I want nearly 3 tons held up on a steep hill by a small spigot in the autobox
With correct adjustment / cleaning, they should be OK (I've had the dreaded screaming twice now - local Indy sorted it both times - he told me what really wrecks them is using it after the screaming has started)

If you don't use it, not only will strain be put on the parking pawl, but come MOT time, it will likely need more work to get it unstuck and pose more risk of permanent damage than if you'd just used it and maintained it in the first place so there is no question - use it. I always use it and have had no problems or issues with it. It is an emergency brake, so good to know it works and it takes the strain off the tiny parking pawl when parked. Of course, the law requires you to use it too.

Thanks everybody! That mostly ties in with my thinking. Is there any preventative maintenance that I should do to the EPB mechanism?2008 TDV8 Sport HSE

Rarely use it either unless on a hill. Mine has done 148000 miles no EPB issues works silently when wanted.

Yes, it should be adjusted as part of the service. LR recommend a strip down after 50 miles off road, I blow mine out with an airline every six momths, amazing what crap comes out of them. I'm still on original shoes and have never had a problem in last 12 years and use it all the time every time, it is set in the CCF to come on when key is removed.
It is one off the best features of a Discovery IMHO.It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Only time I ever had issues was following off-road use where mud had penetrated the rear drum that the EPB sits in. Normal use never caused an issue.
I do prefer the design on the newer cars (like my DS) as it uses a small rotating cam to engage the disc pad to the disc so does away with the enclosed drum.2020 BMW X1 18d XDrive X-Line Auto

I didn't use mine much. At a service, they said the EPB was noisy. I said I didnt really use it. They advised me I should use it.
Started using it and it packed up. .geoff sorted it and it's been fine since. I use it all the time now

Both of our D3's are auto. We use it once in a while in our California D3 due to the hills in California.
On my NYC D3 I only use it when needed NYC is mainly flat.
