How size screen would you like?

What sort of budget do you have?

Do you want it to double up as a dash cam?

(Sorry, misread original post Embarassed )

Ive bought a £79 halfords one made by Ring. Useless.
I bought a £50 one from Argos. Usleless

Both would continuously refuse to loop record, kept saying card full.

I now (and have used for the last year) a £10 dash cam from Ebay. It uses a 32g micro sd card, and records in 15 minute segments, and then once the card is full, reverts and begins again, so you always have at least the last three or four hours driving recorded.

Easy to download, records in AVI format. Very clear, 1080p quality. Has sound, and date/time function.

I found that there is zero point in paying any more for a dash cam, unless you want ones that record your speed as well.

Had a cheapo camera and it was somewhat irratic. It would often miss segments of a journey or double record the same segment. Binned it and after recommends on here bought a Blackvue. I went for the entry level DR3500, it's 1080p, full HD and has proven to be superb. I was so impressed, I got one for Mrs Narpys motor too.
Very discreet, easy to install and reasonable money too Thumbs Up
Don't bother with the lower resolution 720p stuff, the quality is just not there.
Try this, should do you:http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Blackvue-DR3500G...SwA3dYi7e5

Dashcam

Had Blackvues, D500's, eventually they cook on a hot day or the internal battery fails. Even worse BV stops supporting their products after a while.
At the moment I am using a DDpai M6+ and I have never seen anything like it for performance.
Look at Techmoan's review, I bought mine after seeing it.

Garmin have just announced the new Garmin 45 and 55. In addition to being a dashcam they can also warn of speed cameras, land departure and forward collision. They are not cheap but you get what you pay for.

I've had 3 Blackvue but gave up on them due to reliability issues

Now have a Thinkware and touch wood no problem yet apart from GPS lock on my previous DS due to windscreen

Works without a hitch now on Mitsubishi plus and has added benefit of speed camera alerts

Been using one from Amazon £28 it's the best one I have found for the money. It loops through in 10 minute increments when full it keeps removing and filling those 10 minute sections. If something happens and you press a button on the side and it keeps that last 10 minutes. It plugs in the 12 volt socket and works when I open the drivers door and goes off when I shut it. The model is Innoo Tech F1904-a HD

Perhaps not in with the usual suspects, but I use a Möbius action cam as a dash cam. No screen but it really is discreet and mine has been very reliable for loop recording. You do need a windows pc to set it up however.

The single greatest resource for dashcam review's (and old Hi-Fi and much more) has to be Techmoan
http://www.techmoan.com/
https://www.youtube.com/user/Techmoan

His current favourite is the DDPai M6+
