We were driving slowly and heard a clicking noise, the Car cut out and wouldn't restart. The RAC said it was the cam belt (that was replaced 18 months ago), when we took it back to the garage they are claiming it is an oil pump that has cracked and we need a new engine.
Would there not have been oil spilt on the road if the oil pump had cracked?
Any help is appreciated as not sure if being ripped off

Grab a big coffee, something to eat and search oil pump failure on here chap.
All will become apparent.
sorry to hear of the problem by the way.

Its not the pump that fails or splits,(thus no oil spill) its the cambelt tensioner mounting that is part of the oil pump housing that has been known to break off. If it does the cambelt has no tension and catastrophic engine failure is the result I'm afraid. The pump casings were modified to a much stronger design at one point. I'm not sure of the exact years but I believe 2007 models were particularly vulnerable to this failure. The experts on this forum all strongly advise you upgrade the pump when changing the cambelt if its the older style.
If you got the cambelt done at an experienced landrover garage that's something I would have expected them to strongly recommend upgrading.

The oil pump should have been changed when the belts were done, as its a MY2007 that has the weak oil pump casing fitted, the front cambelt tensioner is mounted to the oil pump casing, the casting is weak and breaks off normally just after a belt change .

Another 2007 oil pump failure. JLR really should have sent out a tsb to dealers years ago just to recommend an oil pump replacement with belt changes. It's there duty to their customers. They would have prevented hundreds of engine failures.

If yours is a 2005, you should be ok, although having a new pump fitted is always beneficial as the miles climb.

That would be an admission of there being an issue... My D3 Build Thread

Seen 05 and 06MY pumps break too, albeit at higher miles... My D3 Build Thread

Do you have any of them pumps, or where I can get one.
What roughly should I pay to fit one, unless you are coming down the north east in the future
