Strange & wonderful times, back then.
Party pollies came in three elections later with the election of Christian Watson's labor party. (The first labor party elected in the world.) Still had principles, even with the party politics, Chris Watson resigned after 8 odd weeks, I think, on a matter of principal. Did you think I would leave you crying,

12.5% GST. Increased fuel excise. Prob even a reintroduction of wholesale tax

I'VE GOT IT! (No not that )
Most posters here obviously did not vote ALP, greens, socialist or communist.
Lets susceed from the Commonwealth of Australia and create a state of "Discovery3ialand".
To gain residential status one must have a Discovery3. The place would be run by a democratically elected Government of Discovery3 owners.
Prions, Geeps, Pootrols and Hand Cruisers would be taxed at 50,000,000,000,000,000,000,000% per day.
An anti 4x4er a day (fresh one each day, imported from Australia) would be put into stocks in the city centre so Discovery3 owners could throw sump oil, used filters and old tyres at them.
The main roads would be dirt tracks with lots of mud. There would be no road tax and you would be paid, handsomely, for causing ruts in the main roads. Back streets that are not often used would be covered in blacktop.
Diesel and Petrol would be free but electricity, for electric cars would be very very expensive. Discovery3 owners would not have to pay registration. Others will have to pay through the nose. Other car owners will subsidise Discovery3 owners all of their expenses.
Discovery3 owners will get a "Special Day Off" each week to play with their Discovery3s. Unless it has rained that week then 2 special days off are to be granted.
There, that should keep us happy...................................................... for a while.
