Was amused to read the LR website linked from the original twitter post. The website talks about the design and how they used everyday items to help. One thing they mention is that they used 7 plastic office chairs to help them decide how to layout the seating for the D5. This seems strange to me because I thought they'd figured that out back with the D3, D4, RRS2 and DS. 2 seats at the front, 3 in the middle, 2 at the back. Did they really need to play around with plastic chairs to figure it out? Or is it a little bit of a made up story to make it all seem "fresh" and "innovative"?
Hmmm...
It's not a made up story...they used a park bench for the middle row seats

The more and more I see the new car the more and more I feel that LR has ruined an icon. I'm wondering if I can trade down size wise to a Disco Sport. There are loads of them up here in Scotland and that looks like a resolved design.2014MY Discovery

They should have called it the Range Rover Discovery. Might have made more sense to people then!
Hopefully the new Defender replacement is more like a Disco!

Running around in one at the moment, after a day with it, I won't be rushing out to buy one anytime soon.

Well you have previous owned one and sold it so your position is clear.
I've driven a few and like them but they are at a different price point to the D5. To my mind DS is a car you keep below the £40k VED change and the D5 is a £60k+ machine that is actually no longer a Discovery.
Still the proof of the pudding for the D5 will be how it does in 2018 versus D3 and then D4 numbers in peak years.
Saw a Velar today on Speyside. Looks great but silly ££ for a 6 cylinder engine.2014MY Discovery

My D5 was no where near £60k.
My DS had the 2.2 engine with manual gearbox and 2 years older than the one I'm currently driving. I see no improvement in the latest model, the ingenium is gruff and the fuel tank is way too small and has a thirst for AdBlue. It's comfortable enough, the part leather being better than the leather IMO. The 9 speed auto is better than the manual, smooth but does at times hunt for gears.
The Velar I can't make my mind up about, I like the look but can get a an F-Pace for a fraction of the cost.23.5MY Defender 90 X-Dynamic SE D250 MHEV Pangea Green

Personally I would want an HSE 6 cylinder D5 but I won't, hence the price comment.
DS wise I would have an SE Tech 240 petrol auto below £40k list. Anyway may go back to a 4WD estate next time and save ££ that way.2014MY Discovery

It's SE Tech I'm running around with, it is a nice enough car but when your used to the big Disco, it does feel a bit underwhelming in some areas. I went from the D4 to DS and instantly regretted it and went back to the D4. Perhaps if I had went from my Fl2 or Evoque to DS the switch may have been easier.
Petrol will probably be my next engine choice, the 290 will be nice but limited to the Dynamic model which puts in the same price bracket as my D5.23.5MY Defender 90 X-Dynamic SE D250 MHEV Pangea Green
