Borrow of caravan mirrors - update, a year on |
|
Bit of a long story, but my parents are with their caravan in Peterborough, Dad has pulled his shoulder while putting up awning and can't drive, and now Mum has been admitted to hospital, not great when me and sisters live south Essex.
There is a possibility that me and more importantly my D4 might be called upon to fetch the caravan and bring it back. I don't own a van, not sure if the extended mirrors on my Dads Ford Kuga would fit my D4, but wondering if there is kind person would be willing to lend me some mirrors (for some beer tokens). Ideally south Essex or somewhere close by obviously?
As I say, it's only a possibility and don't yet know when it might be either, sometime between now and 24th though. Just looking at the options at the moment and depends how my Mum is in next 24hrs or so and if Dad thinks he can start driving.
Thanks MY2012 D4 HSE Nara Bronze with some extra stuff

I am too far to help with mirrors but can't see why they wouldn't fit. They are quite universal. I'm pretty sure all milenco will fit. MY2023 Discovery 5 R-Dynamic 3.0

Some car breakdown policies include repatriation of the car/caravan where the driver is incapacitated.

If they have breakdown recovery with the caravan club sorry Motorhome and caravan club it should include recovery in the event of illness.
If not and you are really stuck then you can borrow mine if you came via Ipswich. I can also confirm the the Milenco Aero and Grand Aero will fit a Disco 4.

Thanks Jamie and others. Hadn't thought of the breakdown cover etc, will mention it to my Dad, doubt he has thought that far ahead - Mum is still in hospital.
Will let you know if I needed. MY2012 D4 HSE Nara Bronze with some extra stuff

Thanks Russell.
It's looking unlikely that the D4 will be called into action now. I went up to see them yesterday, Dads shoulder is improving so he thinks he can drive and Mum is out of hospital and on the mend, so no urgent need to bring them and the van home. But as I was in the area, be rude not to run round the Land Rover show off road course - was good but expensive for what it is. MY2012 D4 HSE Nara Bronze with some extra stuff

LaserTam, I have caravan extension mirrors available if needed, millenco ones that clamp onto the mirrors of my D3 fine, so assume they would fit your D4?. I can get them out of the van storage in Harlow at the weekend if required.

So here we are a year later. Dad's shoulder hasn't improved and he hasn't been able to drive for a few months, and actually may never drive again, but that's another story. Mum still refuses to tow, so my brother in law towed the van earlier in the year, then went back 2 weeks later to collect it.
This time it's my turn in the D4. I've never towed before but as its not an emergency this time, I have been able to be a bit more organised. I hitched up the van a couple of weeks ago to check electrics all ok, fitted my Dads mirrors which were fine and then headed for an empty industrial estate for some manoeuvring practice.
All went pretty well and my dad was impressed and gave his approval - it was always the going backwards which concerned me, rather than the going forwards.
So, week after next I am towing it up to Peterborough, will be helping with the awning and leaving them there for 10 days. I'm sure it will be fine, no narrow lanes to contend with and if all else fails, they have had the motor mover fixed MY2012 D4 HSE Nara Bronze with some extra stuff

Just take your time and get used to it. You’ll be fine!!!
You see lots of folk getting themselves into difficulty on-site when they attempt to reverse onto a pitch, especially when there isn’t room. Like you say, there’s £1000 worth of mover fitted, and it’s not for looking at. Half the time it can be quicker using the mover than having to shunt a number of times!

Thanks. That's my thinking, get it roughly in the right place and the mover can do the finer adjustment. MY2012 D4 HSE Nara Bronze with some extra stuff
