Re: I'm after a good v8
Lrstaylor -- Did you find a good one? I'm curious about strength of market/demand as I'm being forced (health) to sell my 2 owner V8 95k FSH HSE which will be torture to let it go. Grateful for any feedback about your search for one. Thanks..

V8
No luck at all in finding a v8 that wasn't a wreck, dealers are just taking the fish yes fish I refuse to swear on here lol I use the term dealers with spit in my mouth, dodgy back street traders more like.
I looked at a few and walked away in less than 10 minutes and that was the best 1 i looked at proper.
When I pulled up in the D3 to look at 1 motor the blokes face dropped as ours was 10 times better than the box he was selling and he realised I knew what I was looking at and new what I was talking about.

It took me 6 months to find mine; I was looking from Nov 2020 to April 2021. It took someone on this forum to be selling theirs for me to find it. You have to be patient sadly.2005 D3 V8

I think tallmat you mite have to sell it to me my wife is seriously upset at the thought of losing her d3, it's the best car she has ever had, it just does what she needs to do. She transports her disabled mum, 91 and wheel chair with ease. The dogs go in the back in there K9 cage. The roof box swallows our gear when we go away which isn't often now days as she cares for her mum full time.
It's a crime that khan is forcing people into such situations and for what ? The lie of "its for clean air" no its yet another tax on the working poorer class.
Cost of living, I don't think a millionaire can really comment can they.

there is and actually alwasy has been a lot of crappy v8s out there - equally there are some stunners as well.
Not sure what budget you're looking at but have you thought of importing either a d3 or d4 v8 from Japan05 D3 V8 HSE, LR Passion tree bars, wildbear compressor guard, LRP switch panel, ARB rear locker + compressor, Trigger 6 shooter electrical system

Oh forgot to mention I had to sell my P38 as its not ulez either, nice chap from up north travelled all the way down here to buy it off me I sold it cheaper than market price because he is a landrover nut and will look after it. He will be doing a full restoration on his 90 and decided to treat him self to a v8 range rover. Mine was well sorted pretty much fully restored I even fitted new cats on it a few day before he collected it.
It drove home faultless and hasn't missed a beat since. If I could move I would do just to get away from all this fake ulez crap.
I'm having a strong smell of petrol fumes on a cold to cold-ish start. It's not present when idling in traffic and isn't there after the car was only off briefly. It's certainly a new phenomenon but not sure if it's just because the windows are down because of the hot weather... Has anyone else experienced this or have anything I can check / have checked? Fuel consumption seems OK and car running nicely.2005 D3 V8

I'm excited to be joining the V8 D3 fold!
I was actually (unsuccessfully) looking for an L322 because of the ridiculous prices that petrol D3 tend to get advertised at (I rarely see anything worth having for less than £10k). Then I stumbled upon an ad on eBay for a one-owner car with 105k miles and (very) full history, all for £8k.
The car was at the other end of the country, so I've had the LR specialist who maintained the car until recently collect it from the dealer and inspect it. I had assumed it was all too good to be true.
The synopsis was that it needed a couple of front wishbones, an aircon condenser, some work to the rear parking sensor wiring, and one of the rear calipers tidying up. With a bit of firm negotiation, the dealer agreed to knock a chunk off so I could get this done before I collect it.
The garage are cracking on with the work, and I'm hoping to collect it next week all being well. I'll update the thread with more photos and first impressions when I collect, as this is the only one I managed to grab before the ad was deleted.

Bought mine 3 years ago for less than 4.5k. 183000 at the time, (195000 now) with 7 owners and full history. First orange dash light today, brake light, check front pads message.

They are definitely out there, if you're prepared to wade through the chaff to find them.
I was in a frame of mind where I was expecting to spend money on anything I bought to get it up to scratch, so I was pretty sanguine about the specialist report.
Ultimately you're looking at a heavy, complicated car that's 15+ years old. Even if it's been maintained (not always a given), there's likely to be work needed to get it to a standard you're happy with in a used car.
They seem to come up periodically on Autotrader and eBay, and howmanyleft suggests that there are still 300+ taxed examples out there. It's just a matter of patience and opportunism.
Actually attaching the photo now...

It looks like I still didn't get the hang of posting a photo. Who knows...
The scores are on the doors, and the estimate for the work is in:
- Pair of front lower arms (Meyle) and tracking
- Fix rear parking sensor wiring
- New rear caliper, and rear discs and pads
- Find and fix Aircon leak (suspected to be a pipe, as the condenser is new)
- Gearbox fluid flush
- Clean up and treat surface rust on rear brake pipes
That lot is coming in at a cool £2k, which is exactly the kind of introduction to Discovery ownership I'd expected! I've also picked up a set of Avon AX7 ATs to go on when it eventually gets here.
Still, it's been well looked after its whole life, so I'm happy to spend a little to continue that.
