Can I improve the adaptive bi-xenon dipped beam? |
|
Others have moaned about the fact the lights on the newer D4's aren't as good as previous models.
I might buy the Lazer Lamps grille kit, which would improve full beam, but what if anything can be done to improve main beam?

Doesn't look like there is apart from going back 20 years and fitting spot lights or possibly going back 3 years and fitting the old lamps, I don't even know if they could be made to work without extra wiring
Afraid it's the old competition trap, pretty or practical, pretty seems to have won. The sales blurb when the D3 first came out was "everything on this vehicle has a practical purpose" not any more, bling has taken over. I find this a disappointment with the D4, there are several little practical items that have been removed. Can't even retro fit cornering lights, no follow me home rear lights. No FBH on indicator.
But hay-ho the superb 3liter engine more than makes up for it so long as it doesn't go bang. It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

you can do what I did and buy some ABL Xenons and sell your std. Xenons on (for the same price usually) and enable cornering - that works Stolen - D4 Loire Blue

I have the adaptive bi-xenons, they’re standard fit on the Landmark.
Unless it’s my eyesight, the main beam isn’t as good as the earlier model D4’s I’ve owned.
I was really wondering if there’s an aftermarket bulb that anyone has fitted to improve it. 2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE

are we confusing terms here ? in my mind, "Main beam " is same as "full beam" … as against "dipped beam", which is the one used most of the time (and so would logically be "main beam" but isn't.) Ha, English …. a confusing language.

You’re right. Dipped beam is what I’m referring to. I use the terms side, main and full, which may not be correct. 2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE

had to happen at some point … law of averages and all that.
Is the dislike of the later headlight universal ? i'm asking as i spoke with PhilM a few weeks ago and he was happy with his (so it's not universal !) ... which raises 2 possibilities :
1. depends on your driving style
2. is it possible there are 2 differing "later" headlights and some are good and some not so good.
obviously the last idea can't be right ... LR changing the spec without letting on about it. never happens.

No it's not universally, but as I said in my OP, I've heard some moaning about from others here.
It's not a big issue and on lit roads you'd barely notice. I really do notice a difference on unlit roads though
I was hoping someone would suggest an alternative bulb. 2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE

My xenon headlights dipped or full while adequate as I don't do a lot of night driving are not as good as the xenons on SWMBO's mini. It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

How do the upcoming changes/additions to the MOT test deal with non-original bulbs? I can’t find the information but I think there was a post about it. Do bulbs have to match those shown on the under bonnet labels? 2014 MY Discovery XS Indus Silver. Sadly gone. Second last LR of forty eight years continuous ownership.
